Weights + Cardio

    hey newbie here

    ive been reading some posts about doing cardio/weights for best weight loss , higher metabolism etc

    but im 6.2 in height and 135kg and hold it well

    would u still recommend weights and cardio for a man of my size or is cardio better till i lose a bit of weight ???? im confused as to what to do

    also if doing weights which is better

    light weights x high reps or heavy weights and low reps ?

    Weights are perfectly suited to you. There is absolutely no logical reason to wait until you lose fat before lifting. Far more reasons to start when overweight. They are low impact on your joints. It will boost your metabolism, expend a lot of calories building and maintaining new muscle. When overweight studies have show you can still build muscle while on a calorie deficit.

    Reps etc depend on your goals.

    My goals were simply to lose fat (not "weight", I lost no weight for about 18months at one stage, but lost a lot of fat).

    So I trained for max muscle growth (hypertrophy) rather than strength or endurance. Most recommend 2-3 sets of 8-12 repetitions for this.

    My main exercises are dips, chinups, pullups, squat, deadlift, standing military press, pressups.

    At 6foot 2in at 135kg? And you are holding it well?

    Your joints are the ones that are holding well so best to take a serious look at your health as that would class you as big time obese.

    You are best off sorting out your diet as the primary focus of your approach. Yes do weights and plenty of cardio. Just get moving more and remember it takes time, consistency and commitment

    I hope you stick to it and get the results you want. I'm 6'3", about three years ago I used to weigh 150kg's. It's not that hard to change when you put your mind to it :).

    Regards nutrition and things like that, I recommend going to a doctor and a nutritionist and joining a gym. A structured monitored approach is better and safer to start with. You weight around 20-21 stone I think so at the moment you are better off starting slowly and getting the initial work done in an environment conducive to your goals. Joining a gym is the best move, I did the same when I wanted to lose weight. Once you have the basics down and feel more confident you will be less attached to gym's and trainers etc and you may even take it into your own hands entirely and work out away from a gym.

    What you are eating is the deciding factor in how well you do, at least that's what I found. I used to work out 6 days a week for two hours at a time, split betwen Rugby training and gym training and I lost no weight, I was never in worse shape. Yet I cut down to three days a week training and changed my diet and I lost 8 stone in 8 months. I didn't do it the healthiest way, in fact I lost it a bit too fast for it to be called healthy but I can testify that nutrition + a set program is better than trying it yourself.

    Basically:

    1. Go see a nutritionist or a doctor (both realistically)
    2. Join a gym
