The OP was looking for Jiu Jitsu Shane. Just FYI

Thanks Barry. I noticed that. :D

Due to UFC commentary, the term "Jiu Jitsu" has become interchangeable with grappling. The OP has not asked for BJJ. Perhaps we should be pointing the OP in the direction of Japanese/Traditional Jiu Jitsu schools? Seems we, as posters, are making the assumption that the OP is referring to grappling. We have all responded on the basis of our assumptions regarding the OP's question. So, again - the OP is welcome to pay us a visit.

True, we're making assumptions but then he did specifically ask for Jiu Jitsu and the schools mentioned above specifically do Jiu Jitsu.

To clarify, I love the sport of BJJ and like to see it promoted in its purest form, so if someone aks for it, I would point them in the direction of a gym that I knew did it in it's purest form. As you've pointed out before, you guys don't do Jiu Jitsu, so I thought maybe you'd made a mistake.

    kevin was that to me?

    @ MaeveD,
Where do you do your classes in Fairview? Is it in Joey's? I sent a fella down and he said there was nobody there last week. So I'm thinking he went to the wrong place. I sent him to Joey's but the people there said there was no martial arts classes on at all in the place.

To be fair he's from France and his English is only okay so he might have got the wrong place.

Yep Roper, we're in Joeys in Fairview. If it was last Saturday, there was no class because the school needed the hall. We're there Tues 8-9.45pm, Thurs 6-7.30pm and Sat 1-2.45pm.

Sounds like he might of been in the wrong place, there's MA classes in Joeys every night. Tell him to look out for the Defend U Ireland van.

It was Saturday alright Maeve so he might have just bumped into someone who didn't know you trained there usually. I'll send him on again and give him directions to Joey's again just in case. Be warned though he is an absolute nutter, you can tell him I said that. He's an old friend and has done a wee bit of BJJ in Australia but not much and despite living in English speaking countries most of his life, he's stubbornly trying not to learn the language.

Whys he not training with you? Another nutter, I suppose we were due another one!

I'll knock some dust off my french so..... it's been a while :D

He lives in Clontarf and to be honest, it would be a terrible idea for me and him to spend too much time together. My wife made me promise not to go out with him too often when she heard he was moving back to Ireland. I'd never get anything done. I once met him for a beer in town and ended up in a student flat in Wales. No joke.

No need to speak French Maeve just pretend you have money for him and suddenly his English is perfect.

It was but I feel the moment has passed and it's probably a discussion for another thread. Although I am curious to see what you think BJJ in its purest form is and how different it is to the grappling done by the likes of Chris brennan or frank shamrock

To all the people on this thread.

Please don't just post your club's website, unless it's specifically for the art in question.

(MMA = MMA, JiuJitsu is subjective)

I've asked for this before on the board. Give a description of your club's slant/feel. This goes to everyone.

As an example, I'm ignorant of the different styles of TKD so if someone asked about that, you should explain what your club does.

We are all free to ask the OP more questions about what specifically they're looking for as well.

    Roper, MMAIreland,

Don't hold a personal contest on this forum.

Ah may as well answer here! It's not a gi/nogi thing. I wrote the "purest form" thing in a bit of a hurry. What I meant by it is that people are training in BJJ and trying to learn and teach that art. Lots of people do grappling, sambo, judo etc. etc. however BJJ has several things that make it unique- especially when fighting off your back. BJJ is very much in it's infancy in Ireland and I think it's important at this stage to ensure that it gets the recognition it deserves so that it can grow as a pastime and as a sport.

If you look around these days there are lots of ma clubs now claiming to do bjj and lots of people suddenly rolling on the ground because it's popular. That's cool and all but if people are really interested in BJJ they should go seek out a way to learn/teach it properly. Obviously SBG do an affiliate programme but I'm sure other places would do it to if someone didn't want to do it with SBG for whatever reason.

If I had known I was in a personal contest I would have had my hair done. I genuinely didn't mean anything by it. If Shane had posted his second comment about the UFC commentary first, I wouldn't have posted anything.

Thanks for the replies! To be honest I wasn't quite sure what type of Jiu Jitsu was what but now I have a fairly good idea what I want to study.

Care to let us in on your decision? Which gym did you go with in the end?
