Long hair on blokes

I'm beyond the point of caring at this point but after reading the turn offs thread I'm wondering is it really that bad?

My hair is pretty long at this stage, about down to my shoulder blades. I'm in college with a lot of girls (art college) and a few of them at this stage have told me that I should cut it short. I'm not all that fussed like, I'll cut it when I feel it's time.. if I even want to. I suppose the other thing is when I met up with my ex the other day she told me to cut it. She said that it's not that it looks bad but that I look better with short hair.

Then again on the other hand, a few (fewer..) have told me that my hair's great and love how soft and straight it is. I started wearing a hairband whilst painting and they've told me that I really pull it off.
So if you have something against long hair on blokes... Why?

I like long hair on guys, but only if they take care of it. Not looking for them to use straighteners or anything, just as long as its not minging and greasy, its nice.

love long hair on guys just once its clean and not greasy and dandruff is an absolute no no its like so gross. it doesnt even need to be tied back but just clean is the main thing.

I have thick wavy hair which is coming down over my shoulders. Its grand now, but the awkward growing-out stage was a pain in the arse - it kept getting caught in the car door etc. Went to the barber for a trim a while back and he complemented me on how well it was looked after, which surprised me... Anyway, consensus from female friends/family/girlfriend is that it looks good. Thats what they tell me to my face anyway :p

    I don't mind medium hair....I don't mind dreads.
But long hair is disgusting, it is either too groomed, girley and odd looking or it is grotty. There seems to be no inbetween. 99.9999% of men don't pull it off in my opinion.

Look, it's really about what you want. Different people have different opinions. I'm sure there are lots of features you don't like on your friends and would never say?!?

Having said that my man has long hair and so do i. My family keep telling me to cut it but it's part of who I am and I'm gonna keep it. Just cos you're a man doesn't mean you should feel different about having long hair. If it suits you, you like it, then keep it. If you fancy a change then cut it.

I had long hair for 2 years and didn't really pull it off, despite the fact that I looked after it pretty well. While sometimes it could look quite good, the type of hair I had was bushy, wavy and hard to control, and more often than not I'd see photos of myself that I didn't like, so eventually I cut it. Should have done it months earlier, but long hair is something you get attached to.

I think that as a guy, it's hard to pull off. Unless you've naturally straight/non-frizzy hair you're pretty much screwed unless you're willing to put a lot of effort into grooming, which most men aren't, and those who do are kinda clueless, compared to women, who've grown up with long hair. When you grow it long you don't really know what it'll look like and if you've spent over a year growing it, it's hard to just decide it doesn't suit you and to cut it.

I think long hair can look good on guys, but the majority of guys with long hair that you're likely to see probably just grew it long for the sake of it/as an experiment, and if it doesn't look great, probably just haven't been bothered to change it.

    Hey there,

Personally wouldn't like it on someone I was with, Suppose the reasons are:

Wouldn't like to be with someone with prettier hair than me :D

and I don't spend too long getting ready to go out etc so wouldn't like to be with someone who spent a long time on their hair (that would go for short hair too)

Slightly off topic but it would make a silly thread on its own. when guys get their hair cut do they get it blowdried and would it be blow dried straight. Lots of the guys I know with long hair just grow it cut it short and grow it again but I've always wondered.

    Depends on the guy....

My hair goes down past my nipples.
Dead straight... i dont even use a straightener, its just freakishly straight.
I take good care of it, granted all i do is use shampoo (no conditioner) and brush it... using brush or come rips out and tangles it. (odd i know)

Even as a guy I'll still say some guys just cant pull off the long hair thing.
I myself dont even think i can pull it off, but who the **** cares... it's how i want it to hjave it. granted i wish it was wavy.

As for girls. I've had them tell me they'd murder for my hair.
My last 3 girlfriends dug the long hair on guys. So they do exsist!
The only girls that have ever really told me to get it cut, were the typical stuck up slutty *****... jealousy if anything :P

I hate long hair on blokes, but that is only because i'm jealous due to me now going bald so cannot grow mine long again. Not that mine ever looked any good when i did have it long, but i liked it.

My hair is getting longish now, looks a mess. Going the hairdresser to sort it out on Friday, havent a clue what i want. i was originally going for this look:

    http://www.mtv.com/shared/media/news/images/h/Hives/sq_hives_channel_v.jpg

As my hair is the same colour but i think it frizzes a bit to much and curls at the end may be to hard to keep. My fringe is about 3 inches long. i dont wanna spend ages every day trying to fix it.

Is there a page with loads of hairstyles as i havent a clue what i want!

My hair is crazy frizzy after being washed and probably the same length but I find using a protector spray once youre outta the shower and the hair is damp, sorts out the frizz completely and makes the hair shiny. Its for before using straighteners but you dont have to use straighteners. Either way u can bring that pic to the hairdressers maybe?

Heres a good site for cuts, yes all the guys are Asian but some good looks there

Long, straight hair is a bad look. Extremely feminine and unflattering.

It's too much hassle to keep. And I think if it's any longer than the bottom of your ear it looks scruffy if you're wearing a suit. I find most guys I know who had it ditched it by their mid to late twenties. Very few people get away with the look any older than that.

Whats your opinion on that? I think its a ncie style, not to feminine and not to hard to keep?

noooooo.long hair on guys is really nice! once its clean that is. I was at machine head and there was a lotta long bad hair flying around.

even though my hair is short ish [well sholder length] i don't mind guys with longer hair.

Not convinced of that theory myself. My dad is bald and so was his dad, but my maternal grandfather still has a full head of hair at 97. Not conclusive proof I know, but every bloke on my mum's side of the family kept their hair.

I think the majority are liek this alright....

I said it in the other thread, I can think of two blokes with hair thats about to their shoulders, maybe slightly longer. ones is kinda...just longer hair and the others is Real Straight and Shiny, they're both hot.
But my taste in men has gone very different and i'm checking out Men with longer hair these days. but not LONG hair. i just dont like the Really long hair!
