Its a new thing for E4 to help the blind people, seems like a nice thing to do but totally ruins the shows! i cant stand it and i was only watching it for five minutes,I think its permanent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

really? i thought it was just my tv! i hope it isn't permanent, should be optional for blinc people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭rejkin

not really sure if its permanent but its been advertised for a while so it will prob be around for the foreseeable future

Switched over to Friends earlier and thought 'I've never seen the episode where an English guy narrates their every move.' Then it clicked!

It was so annoying. I'm all for this audio description thing (apart from the 17 million ads for it) but it should be an optional thing.

Is it definitely permanent from now on or is it just for a day or so? Were the repeat episodes later in the day the same? I couldn't imagine E4 doing this for all episodes!.

OMG no..:(:(....tis fair annoyin but kinda funny..they should get E4 interactive then..like press redd button and you get voiceover..??

This is hilariously bad. It's a nice idea but it's a terrible implementation. If I was actually trying to watch something this would seriously piss me off. It is something that would actually put me off watching something on e4. Who honestly thought this was a good idea? Will it be implemented on other channels?

The e4 interactive thing is a good idea but would only work for people with sky or something similar. For people without sky, a second channel with the voiceover running would probably be the best thing to do although I don't know how much that would cost.

I think its great. You can watch it with your eyes closed.
Wish he was more descriptive about what Rachel is wearing though:(

There is an option on Sky boxes for Audio Description, I'd have thought this would've applied to all digital platforms. Surely it couldn't be that hard for the channel to run AD soundtrack on a seperate audio stream? It was even possible in analogue satellite days.

Ha, I'm trying to remember if he said' Phoebe kisses Rachel'. I don't think he did!

I'm assuming everyone with these problems are on UPC/NTL/Chorus, from looking at a similar thread on the Cable forum. It would seem to be a mistake on UPC's part, outputting the AD version instead of the standard.

I thought it was really funny. It added a new dynamic to an episode I've seen 3 or 4 times

I thought it was funny at first too, especially when the guy had to fit in what he wanted to say in a hurry.

Then it just got really annoying.

He did! He said it in some mad way like 'Phoebe pulls Rachel in for a lingering kiss'

i think its just teething problems for the Irish system.

I saw a bit of Friends on UK freeview today and it wasn't on mine so I'd say you're right. I wish the sign language guy could be optional too.

Ah so that's what it was! Very confused for a while until I got bored and turned it over. All for additonal services for those who need them but def should be able to turn them off :)

I didn't know whether this would be brought up or not for fear of the pc police but dear God it's fierce annoying. Every day i watch scrubs but not today. How is anyone.... even blind ones for that matter, to really enjoy scrubs with the drab voice explaining the most boring things. Like today "Turk folds his arms", "JD Turk to JD".. ARGH.

Im defo not watchin e4 untill this is turned to an option. It is nowhere near fair on people who can see. I just looked at their schedule and its available for all the shows.

..... And before anyone says i've no idea what its like for people who cant see, my dad has eye problems and he cant stand it either!

It wasn't, I was watching on Sky at home and it was the same. Presumed it was some kind of awareness building exercise for the service.

It may have been that alright but would they not have just stuck with advertising it? I've seen those ads so many times at this stage and I haven't even been watching that much tv. They're on a lot.

People eventually tune out of ads. A demonstration of the service is a lot more powerful at getting the point across.
