26 years of marriage... How can people give up on that?

When they obviously fell out of love it was time to call it a day even if that was after 26 years of marriage

Sometimes people only stay in it for the sake of the kids. Ryan's kids are of the age now where they understand and aren't as reliant on their parents as they once were. This came about over years, not just overnight.

Wow tis a long time married! Am bit shocked about it, though don't listen to his show.

Any reasons why it happened, or is it just irreconcilable differences?

Jesus, 26 years married to Gerry Ryan is like a life sentence. The idea of having to have sex with him makes me shudder. And then cry. It's pretty horrible. Glad to hear she escaped.

Do people really care? They were separated at one stage previously. Can't be that surprising.

I see they've asked for the media to respect their privacy and not descend into prurient speculation, exactly how Gerry himself would treat another divorce on his radio show...

LOL your post made me cringe. Sad to hear about any marriage breaking up though, maybe she became 'the elephant in the room'.

i was thinking that myself. i know a fair few in fact that do. its not that unusual for people to put their kids welfare ahead of themselves when theyre in their formative years.

bit out of the blue to me but then i dont know much about the guy apart from how fecking biased his show is.

he's practically been acting like government FM the last few time ive tuned in

Was actually surprised because he had still been talking about Mrs Ryan recently.

Wasn't there a pic of him and Mrs Ryan in some Sunday newspaper last weekend?

    Dugs????

Very sorry to hear this. So difficult for the poor kids to deal with. The fact that it's going to be a huge "story" and all the "who's fault was it" carry on there will be in the press won't do the kids any good.

    Shocked !
Really thought they adored each other. Can't be easy for anyone involved.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

It might have appeared that they adored each other if you were to go by the stuff he used to say on the show, but he's in a position where he can create an illusion. Nobody else knows the real story.

The response to that is so obvious I'm actually not surprised nobody has bothered posting it :).

Maybe they're ok with it. Maybe they saw it coming - well the older ones anyway.

Can't find a link, but think of an older version of the daughter.

Does anyone know why she would have heard buzzing on the line?

One of my favourite 'Mrs. Ryan' quotes:
"Right, yeah, we'll take a look at the front page of the Indo there. Picture of Gerry Adams there on the cover, he's outside stormont - ah ****e! what day's today? Tuesday? Forgot to put out the bloody bin. Mrs. Ryan reminded me last night and all, she's goin to kill me when I get home. But yeah, the Indo. Nice picture there...."
Haven't listened to Gerry Ryan in years but if he's going to stop talking about the missus it's another reason not to listen. Hope it works out well for them.

I was married 27 yrs last yr.Told my husband to leave after years of cheating.Speaking from experience it is so devastating.

Sorry to harp on but his daughter really is hot and hopefully she is a a motormouth like her dad, which could possibly become quite useful during sexual contact

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

Anyone making unsubstantiated allegations about why they broke up will be banned. Be warned, folks.

Also ease up on the language a bit. As Jay-Z once observed: It's not necessary.

O ver the years I have listened to him occasionaly, and I seem to think he is obsessed with sex and anything to do with it.
He is hard to listen to any more.
Maybe his wife felt the same.

Thats a terrible picture of her! Better ones in the paper today and she looks like an older version of Brian O'Driscolls doll

I'm sorry to hear this news. Very very sorry for the children. And for both Gerry and his wife.

I found him annoying to listen to, since 2000 or so, but to be fair, for many years when I was a housewife, his show was a lifeline. I got the impression he was a decent man underneath. Yes, he can seem like a bit of a know-it-all, but his intentions were good, as regards the important things in life.

I'd rather not speculate as to why this break-up has occurred, but one thing's for sure, it must have been awful for them lately - like others have said, you don't end a 26-year marriage lightly.

Both spouses, whether 'entirely innocent', or 'somewhat culpable', will have suffered, and will suffer, a great deal, as a result of this break-up. And I feel for them.

    you SURE thats the daughter?

could be the reason for the break up :D

That's a terrible picture of his wife, she is actually quite attractive, and not just 'for her age', I was very surprised - years of knowing her only as 'Mrs Ryan' through the radio gave me a mental image a bit wide of the mark.
