would love to fool around with that

I know a few people who'd like to give that a spin. Nice one.

Meh. You don't need Rory Gallaghers name on it to get a good treble-booster. The sticker on the case (with green grass and diddley-iddley font) looks pretty cringe-worthy too.

Never been a big fan of 'endorsements' by dead people tbh.

    What he said.
modified to nail Rory Gallaghers signature tone
I get tired of reading this ****e. The only way you're going to nail Rory Gallagher's tone is to be Rory Gallagher and the funny thing is Rory sounded like himself on whatever rig he played through.
When dialed about halfway, you will achieve Gallaghers sound from his early records like "Deuce", "Live in Europe" and "Against The Grain".

That's some claim to make, does that count as a guarantee? :p

.... He used a Texas Rangemaster Treble Boost. Works nicely with vintage valves amps

    That looks absolutely AWFUL!

Wow thats a really ugly pedal. Also I wouldn't pay much for a treble booster, they are very simple pedals that most people could build easily.

They seem to get quite good reviews etc. and are probably excellent at what they do. But to be promising that you will sound like a blues legend is a bit much, particularly considering that so much of his tone was the product of his fingers and not his guitar tone necessarily.

Then again, Analogman sells the Beano Boost, which can make you sound like Clapton on the Bluesbreaker album (but only in combination with a Marshall Bluesbreaker, vintage Les Paul and the right chops)

I think overenthusiastic advertising is to blame.

But should you be seeking that sound and be willing to put up with the fact that the pedal is truely ugly, and also have a vintage AC30 and Strat (or equivalent thereof), as well as the relevant playing skills, then it would probably be worth a look.

Unless it comes with NOS AC128 transistors it wouldn't sound anything near Rorys treble booster. A lot of rorys sound came by just his volume and tone controls aswell so a pedal really won't get ya to close to his sound. Brian May from Queen used the same treble booster as Rory and he sounds nothing like him.

Besides, everybody knows the secret to Rory's tone was having an odd tuner. 5 of one + 1 of the other = mojo :p

I'm surprised they aren't marketting it as the "green note"

Yeah, and you'll need an old zinc battery too, the Alkaline crap that people use these days sounds like muck imo

I wonder did they use that new fangled lead-free solder on these pedals.... Ahh Jaysus!! Im never going to get Rory's sound...:(

Need to change your pickups aswell, rory blew his and neck and bridge pickups as far as I know.

I think the tone comes from excessive drinking and acidic sweat........

Reading the reviews of the guys pedals on Harmony Central it would seem that some serious tone-whores are users, guys with the financial wherewithal to buy 5 of one type of pedal and then keep the one they like best. Seeing that none or us have even tried the pedal or had the chance to compare it to others on the market we really are in no position to say.

I quite like the look of it, begorra ;)

Yep ....and from leaving the neck on the window sill to dry out once you get it back from being stolen and left out in a ditch in the rain for a few days. That really adds to the sustain, man.

Did Rory really do that??? What a legend of man!

A quick question for those in the know-
will a treble booster (this one or any other) sound much different than leaving a wah on full treble (something I love doing with the neck pickup for a nice solo sound)?

Rory forgive me for hijacking your thread :)

AFAIK, treble boosters don't boost your treble. I'm completely open to correction on that though.

    Actually they do. :p

The reason how they came about is that the old Vox amps and the likes back in the day were very dark sounding. So, treble boosters were used to boost the uhhh treble and volume for solos etc. :)

Electro Harmonix made one back in the 70's that was almost identical to the LPB-1 booster but it had different value input and output caps so it was brighter.

A lot of the new ones you'd find now are tamed a little bit, different caps on them so they're not as harsh. Obviously we don't have the limitations in amps like there was back in the 60's, so they're not really that necessary nowadays but a clean boost is always nice for solos. ;)
