Sauce sandwiches, I still eat those but it's been a while. Dan bars were great as well.

a teaspoon of butter and sugar...

    Or tinned meatballs:eek::eek:

Brown sauce, ketchup, or mayonaise sandwiches.

Oh and before age five or six I refused to eat anything except Heinz spaghetti bolognaise flavoured baby food and baby porridge. I even hated sweets. I would eat the odd sausage but it would have to be "peeled".

My mam used to give us roast hearts for dinner sometimes.... i think they were lambs hearts. I thought everyone ate them until in Home Ec class we were talking about it and everyone freaked out when I said we ate them. Went home and told mam I wouldn't eat them again.....

Also my mam used to get a massive bowl of scrambled egg, massive bowl of beans and a roasting tin full of toast, we would all just tuck in. We used to think it was a like a party but looking back I reckon it was cos we were poor.

Next door ate sauce sambos and mam used to look down her nose on them... :D

    Seriously.

I can remember eating sheet after sheet of it.
Think we thought it was eating (rice) paper?

God, I ate so much non edible stuff, it's scary. I can remember licking this metal ornament when I was very young, because I liked the metalic 'taste' it'd give...

The sickest thing I ever regularly ate was 2 hotdogs vertically sliced into 2 slices of toast, with 2-3 slices of american cheese  I cant beleive I was so stupid back then. Wait, Im stupid now.....

my dad did the eggs thing as well, dear gods it looked awfull but was snack heaven. managed to pass it on to the grand daughter too so it'll last one more generation at least :)

i used to love semolina and tapioca. in fact after reading this im gonna buy a packet. and ya can STILL get macaroon bars ! they must be the only surviving sweet from the 80's that wasnt a "brand" name.

just thought of another. not really crap but boiled rice with milk so it goes gooey with big dollops of strawberry jam.

    still eating that now :)

I remember eating the glue that they gave you in your early years at school. Dont remember it tasting really good, have no idea why Id eat it.

I used to like eating icing sugar. Id fill a little cup of it & hide round the side of the house & eat it. Mum would have kicked my arse if she saw me! I remember trying coco powder & thinking that it must be like icing sugar only chocolate. Got a rude suprise there! Did the same with coffee as well.

were they those things that LOOKED like a slab of ice cream wedged between two wafers ala the iceberger only in reality they seemed to be made out of styrofoam!

pink and white if i remember correctly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,900 ✭✭✭Quality

No they had thin slices of wafer and a cocoa powder substance between them and were coated in choclate, No ice cream

They were in a blue metallic wrap of paper, they were quite thin and flat, from what I can remember...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,919 ✭✭✭Schism

Sausages and strawberry jam on homemade bread, in fact I'll have to do that again!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭nice1franko

I even kicked up feckin murder when the ma wouldnt give me them on good friday (it being no meat day n all - although, I doubt there was very much meat in them).

    Telex bars FTW!!!

In case of going OT, I remember I used to love dipping chips into milk to the disgust of everyone around me.

A couple of things, firstly Dunnes Stores frozen pizza's - the small ones - they came in a bag of 6 or 8. I would have 2 every day for lunch from school for 6 and a half years......used to watch neighbours and wait for them to cook...used to burn the top of my mouth everytime!!

    MAcroon bars.....yum

Refreshers, apple jacks, space bars, apple drops,

Used to try to eat a refresher in class, if it didn't pull the fillings out of your head, the sherbet dust went up your nose and your look like something from a horror movie with snot coming out your nose and choking from the 2lbs of lead fillings going down your troat!!

Were these Brinky bars??? I remember my Gran used to give them to us as a treat. Blue wrapper, red writing?? God I loved them and 54321's!!

I used to eat salad cream and lettuce sandwiches - the height of sophistication I was!! Also brown sauce sandwiches we used to go through a big bottle of that Kandee brown sauce a week!! On those sambos alone!!

I used to eat white pudding raw from the packet, especially loved the end pieces! Actually who am I kidding I still do eat it
