Improvements to Irish airsoft retail stores

In the same way a thread was started to seek new ideas for improvements to HRTA and other skirmish sites, this thread could be used to voice improvements and suggestions players may have for Irish airsoft retailer's sites.

This is not to point out flaws, more to point out what you would like to see from retailers in the future and what improvements could be made.
This would go for the likes of site layout and design, shipping options, stock ranges you would like to see, upgrade services etc etc.
Also any suggestions you may have in regards new ideas, like first time starter packages for example.

I guess comments should be made as a whole, that is, not to be making comments like "well www.abcdefg.com should stop doing this and start doing this", try and make your suggestion applicable to all Irish retailers. We're all on here, so we can all read what you think.

    All suggestions are welcome. :)

    Steve

god idea for a thread., dont want you to take this the wrong way but i hate looking for stuff on your site.,lol,
if it was set out in better catagories then it would be a lot more user friendly, for instance the way there sub catagorys for pistols then revolvers. i think it would be better if they were all in the one to make browsing easier and sub machine guns have its own catagory.,
maybe change "auto electric guns" to AEGs or rifles/assault rifles etc, and on the front page have more featured items and less writing., :)

I think an upgrade service would be a great idea for sure, As far as beginner packages i can't see people not taking advantage of that if money is saved, You could Do AEG, extra mags, battery and charger...

theres a lot of information out there in order for you to upgrade your own stuff though, its not really that hard so i cant see it beeing all that popular if it was an option.,

    All points duly noted. :)

    Lets get these ideas flowing!

Laziness and lack of technical ability may stop people from DIY upgrading though lol

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

maybe a section on all the sites called "parts" where ya could but individual things like hopups, fire selectors, springs and all that kinda thing., ehobby only sends little things like that by regular post and it take about 2 weeks so would be handy to get it in ireland., and more full auto pistols, i love the G18c and the M93 but that ones too big for a lot of holsters,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

How about a drill down system.

You click on an aeg for example. You will then get a series of links to products which are specifically designed or suited to that aeg in terms of spare parts, accessories, upgrades etc

It would certainly take some of the fear and confusion out of it for newbies (while saving the more experienced a lot of searching)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,509 ✭✭✭SpitfireIV

The one thing that bugs me about the sites is the images, sometimes you click on an image of an airsoft gun, you know, to get a good close look at it and its just a tiny thumbnail image, no bigger when you click it, and a lot of the pictures are like that, tiny stock images.

I'd love to see a range of photos for each product with close up shots etc..........it'd convince me to spend my money quicker :p

P.S. What about software that lets you zoom in and out on an image and rotate the gun to have a 360 view :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

I agree about the images, but it does take a lot of time to do all that, i'm sure we'd all love to see 360 images that we can rotate and videos of the stuff in action, but if the retailers did that, there'd be no time for actually sending out orders :)

Its more enjoyable to do it yourself, but if you're stuck for time and upgrade service could be handy. I was buying someone upgrade kits from wgc for the new AEGs and they said they would upgrade them for me as part of the cost so I said fine.

Even if they were just higher quality/bigger images it would be enough I think though some alternate views would be nice too :D
On the whole though I think the Irish sites are well orgainsed compared to some of the chineses sites for example where there is no orgainisation and no information.

Like Zero said, beginners packages would be a good idea

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭kevteljeur

I wouldn't mind if all the sites had better display of stock levels at the listings level, so that I wouldn't have to actually go into individual products to see if any were available - most Irish retailers have many more products lists than available.

I agree with CroppyBoy1798 - some of the images sometimes actually seem smaller when you click for zooming :)

I like the related/recommended products list idea too. When I first started buying, it was a bit intimidating, figuring out which extra parts I'd need. I know there's an argument about too much hand-holding, but from a retailer's perspective, you sell more when you give more information, more consistently. Fear keeps my wallet closed, and I believe that's true across the board.

Lastly, I wouldn't mind if the retailers were consistent about AEG/GBB stats - if every piece of projectile equipment had construction material, weight in kg and projectile force in J and m/s.

I guess a lot of this is down to individual retailer choice. I'm a web developer by trade, so I know what it's like. Steve may feel info x is a good selling point of his site, where as Tony may feel it confuses the issue, and Derek might say 'come in and hold the kit in my store'. If you all had the amazon.com clone sites and drove the same car, it wouldn't make for an interesting marketplace... :(

I brought up the pictures and details thing months ago and got my head chewed off for it. (not really chewed off it just sounds more exciting that way)

I was prepared to take pictures of my own equipment and send it off but then my cammera broke for no particular reason.

That's really the only improvement that needs to be done.

Fully agree. Quality of pics is not as good as it could be. Not saying, that there should be 1000 images for each product and "How stuff works" videos, but less generic - reall look photos gives much better idea.

    1. Bigger & more pics. I personally am seriously put off buying anything if I can only see is a tiny pic of it. Yes, it takes time to create the pics and more bandwidth, but I firmly believe it will increase sales and the number of loyal customers which is even more important.
    2. A 'customise' option like on Redwolf, that allows you to purchase 1 joule upgrade installations, or get paint jobs done on the AEG before they get shipped. Many people will gladly pay extra.
    3. Video's. Like on ebaybanned website. Very useful. Could be hosted on youtube or veoh etc. You could link to any existing videos that show the AEG/Accessory being used...you don't have to make your own.
    4. Gift Vouchers. Nice way to attract new customers who otherwise might not buy from you or any airsoft retailer.
    5. Physical stores located in fairly conveinient places, though apparantely not in Bray.
    6. 50% discounts for airsoft forum members whose forum handle begins with 'Crazy'.

The first Irish retailer that can offer the services/improvements mentioned in this thread will dominate the irish market.

Dey shud all giv uz teh free stufz!

    Lol roflamoacopterorz.

Yeah, The pics thing I would agree with, as it takes time to list an item, and run a business though it would be difficult to keep on top of, but a good pic sells an aeg like you wouldn't believe.

Perhaps the customers with photography experience could take a set of quality photos, and e-mail them on to the retailers, who could update their listings with them, even providing a photobucket url, and expressed permission of use.

And for the photographer, a snazzy addition to the cv. (if a little scary!)

I'd be more than happy to give this a go, I'll get me hands on a cammera and do some photoshopping tonight. :D

I have the mac11a1 ggb and the cyma/acm Thompson m1a1 which I believe are both sold by Irish suppilers.

One thing I noticed with most Irish retailers is that they will have eg.60 AEGs and sell only 20 different types of magazines  I presume most people want more than one mag right? I also think there should be the brand version and a cheap version, eg. a Mauri MP5k, Mauri standard mag or MAG 90rd mag.

Yeah this is very true, I desparately need a TM MP7A1 hicap to make it skirmishable!

there was one in the adverts section last week and weeder couldnt sell it., i bought it in the end.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 769 ✭✭✭AirsoftEire.com

Good point about the magazines, I always thought thay myself and expanding our range of magazines is now top of the list.
The problem was restocking everything and getting new, interesting products in stock at the same time, so magazines didnt really make it in there.

The photo issue was one of our main priorities when setting up the site and to a certain extent I think we exceed most other sites in the photo department, but even then there are a lot of improvements that can be made, like large 800x600 photos divided into sections with close ups of engravings, finishes and functions.

But you're talking endless hours of photography, editing and uploading, but alas if it means more sales, there's no reason not to do it. Watch this space.

Video reviews are something were looking in to also, but of course that eats up even more massive amounts of time, but we hope to introduce short professional clips of perhaps AEGs to start with.

Actually a 5% or 10% discount for IAA members would be good!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 179 ✭✭TheFlatulator

my 2 cents... Why not link off to some youtube vids for examples of the brand in question, i think all of here will give the video quaility the benifit of the doubt. But that way people can see the thing in action.

As for discounts, i know you are there to make make money so cutting the price might not be viable but what about maybe once a quarter offer 2 or 3 AEG's cost price (or cost +10%) + P&P to ppl on the airsoft forum here. That way you drum up trade and don't make a loss and get some business in as well. So for example lets say a TM SIG 552 was €150 cost price to you and you add 10% (€15) you then sell it for €165 + P&P.

    Just a few idea's

We'll be upgrading the site vastly in the next while, starting with changing from Paypal to a different service then changing the shopping part of the site altogether from OSCommerce.

Interesting, but highly unfeasible. I challenge you to find any retailer anywhere that will go to the effort of importing an aeg, stocking it, accepting an order and posting it out for €15. :D

It may be "business", but its "putting you out of business" business. And seeing as a large proportion of customers are members of the IAA, you'd be selling thousands of euro of gear and making pence in return. I think a discount with packages would be a better idea, which we currently do to an extent. Always worth an ask.

    Steve

Well just an idea but if you were to change around the figures so that you get the idea, but limit the number of things to only 3 of these type of sales per every 3 months or so. Just so that you show thanks for ppl here buying...

But if you did a package with a discount that would be good as well...

Ditto on the parts section idea. Also, a links/drop-down menu for AEGs displaying compatible upgrades and accessories would be very handy, particularly for newbies.

I don't know, to many options would be just as confusing. those kind of options things only really benefit the seller as it encourages you to buy more than you probably originally intended.

I'm surprised more Irish shops don't have laser, as far as I know there are not as many charges involved in a laser transaction unlike a credit card or paypal transaction which fleeces everybody involved.
