I don't think there's a rule against them, they can wear a cap after all?

As for psychology, will anyone be afraid to tackle Alan Smith due to his broken leg, Rooney due to his metatarsel, etc.

I think the OP's point isn't that he had an injury, its that he has a very obvious reminder of that injury. For example (extreme) if Alan Smith was out there with a cast around his leg it would cause people to be wary.

IMO, if he wants to wear it, conscious of the injury etc, thats totally grand, leave him off. But if he Needs to wear it, he shouldn't be on the pitch.

So all the players down the years who have worn face guards after fractured cheeks, Maldini, Shevchekno, Mijhalovic to name but 3. Should they not have been on the pitch?

Should Cantona not have been on the pitch when he broke his wrist and wore a cast.

I have to wear a big ankle support when I play, its not a choice, should I not be on the pitch?

Essentially what your saying is if you have to wear anything thats not boots, shin pads or the kit then you shouldn't be on the pitch!

looking at the protection he's wearing and looking at the problem, if that cap is the only thing stopping him suffering a brain injury in the event of a clash he probably shouldn't be playing. But i doubt it is, i assume its a precautionary measure.

I just think thats the one area of the body that shouldn't be put in any degree of risk, especially for a keeper who has quite a decent chance of a clash of heads. Also if his condition were serious enough to NEED the cap, then being shaken around etc is probably not a good idea. Its different to other injuries, with your ankle for instance its the ankle bone being protected, whats important here is thats inside which can be very sensitive be extreme movement etc ( the damage to the brain is often done by the inner wall of the skull from a hard impact to the outside). But as i said, im sure none of this is the case, he's pretty much grand and its just purely precautionary and he'd be fine without it.
