    No votes for Pierce Brosnan!!

I think he was very good (although Connery was better)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

Went for Dalton, he's by no means perfect but I liked the darker aspects he brought to Bond.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

    Dalton is the best Bond.

Connery had everything (including repulsive/irresistible hairy chest).
I can see Craig becoming the best if he turns out a few more times but Connery deserves legendary status at this stage.
Connery owned the role and Craig seems to have a great hold on it already.

I think Brosnan would have been given more respect if the latest Bond film hadn't been so visceral and brutal - it made Brosnan look like a total wimp.

    Cheers for setting this up,

I know he's only done the one film, but im going to give craig the benefit of the doubt.

Followed closly by Dalton and Connery

    Timothy Dalton

I akways enjoyed Roger Moore's bonds films most.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

I'm going to abstain from voting as I liked them all and can't really think of who I liked the best. Why can't we all just get along? :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 145 ✭✭hoppo254

Ian Fleming said Timothy Dalton was the best representation of Bond he seen on screen. He portrayed Bond as Fleming seen him in his head while writing the books.

I think Dalton was the best bond. Craig certainly did justice to the Bond franchise in his first film

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,201 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

My mother's maiden name is Dalton, so he gets my vote. :D

I liked the darker aspects that he brought to the role, too. Craig has shown some of this, so he fares well, in my opinion. Connery started out great, but gradually went downhill, as did the franchise, which reached a nadir with Moore's series of films, many of which were little above farce. Brosnan did reasonably well, but the scriptwriting let him down somewhat.

Interestingly, the first film I saw was OHMSS, and for years I thought Lazenby was the original Bond. It is still my favourite film. It has a decent storyline and the minimum of silly effects (flying car, anyone?), and, very importantly, the classiest Bond lady by far.

As far as im aware the only time bond has been married ?

Connery gets my vote. With that said, my second on the list would have been Timothy Dalton but I'm interested in seeing where Daniel Craig can take this. He has that dark cold, ruthless, calculating aspect down to a tee.

Brosnan looked like Bond should look, but had too much Moore about him in the sleazy-stakes.

Not a big Bond fan but Roger Moore ftw!

oh.. i thought this was going to a be 20 option poll on what your favurate bond movie is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,358 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

No contest for me. Sean Connery was by far my favourite James Bond. I think it was a combination of his masculinaty (hairy chest, etc.), his obvious good looks (for the blokes, it was a case of trying to look like him - impossible really!), his accent and that elusive charm he possessed. He made Bond his own.

That said, I did enjoy all the other portrayals of Bond, except for George Lazenby, who I thought was too bland and then, ironically, too emotional at the end of OHMSS.

Incidentally, Roger Moore would be my #2 choice because of the humourous element he brought to the proceedings, and I suppose to some extent the fact that he starred in some great Bond films like Live and Let Die, The Man with The Golden Gun and Octopussy.

Sean Connery for the way he dealt with bad guys and treated chicks. Great combination of charisma and nonchalance.

    Brosnan

Roger Moore, there is no subsitute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,535 ✭✭✭Raekwon

I grew up watching Roger Moore as Bond and I still think that he was in the best 007 movies, so he gets my vote!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Bit of a Dalton fan, but Goldeneye was by far the best bond movie, so I gave Brosnan my vote, as much as I actually dislike him he played an excellent bond in said movie.

Just pretend Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day never happened...

Daniel Craig is not James Bond - hairless and muscular? Please....Casino Royale was a decent film but it was not a Bond film to me, nor did it remotely even feel like one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭doonothing

I'd have to say Craig, yes after one movie! The bonds before were just too camp and smug and puny and unintimidating for me. Maybe the films just weren't to my taste...
Not that Casino Royale was either, but a marked improvement!

Who would have been or would be a good bond???

Having a poll on the best bond is pointless because Connery is also going
to come out top.A far more interesting poll would be the best bond film ever.
    So how about it?

Well ok instead of listing every bond film in a poll, start voting here.

I'd go for Craig, but not after only one film. I'll reassess him after Quantum of Solace.

I voted for Connery. I watched his films again recently and I thought the first three (Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger) were excellent. You Only Live Twice was good, especially since it established so many supervillain stereotypes. Diamonds Are Forever was still enjoyable, if a bit painful. They really cheesed it up, it seemed like a typical '70s movie.

My second choice is Timothy Dalton. Many of friends are sick of hearing me rave about him! The Living Daylights is awesome, one of my favourite Bond films. The only problem with it is the weak main villains. That excludes the henchmen, he was super cool with his explosive milk bottles. Licence to Kill was a little too different, but Robert Davi was a great villain.

Best Bond Film: For me, it has to be Live and Let Die. So many things happen in that film: double-decker bus getting turned into a single-decker by a low bridge (!), 007 getting away from the alligators, the story of the drugs gang and its connection to the Carribean country, Solitaire (!) and that wonderful, wonderful speedboat chase... oh, and that goofy sheriff!
All in all a very entertaining, action-packed, scenes-packed film.

the nail on the head declan!!! all those queen of cups cards in the deck was magic.. moore is mine by a mile solely for his smarminess and those innuendos were made for his style

Live and let Die was the best Moore bond film but the best bond film ever,I very much doubt it.Double 0 Sleaze is the best way to describe Moore as Bond.
For me the best bond film ever would have to be Goldfinger. It was widely considered as the first Bond blockbuster & had all the ingredients of a great Bond Film.
    Great villain,great lines,great car,great music.It was the
    definitive Bond film.

I haven't seen all the Bond films, and can't remember the specifics of the ones I HAVE seen, so I can't choose the best film...

I voted Brosnan for best Bond, while Sean Connery owns the role always and forever, and played him so well, I think Brosnan simply COULD be James Bond in real life, it seemed to fit him so well. It's hard to describe really what I mean though...

Sean Connery. He isthe original Bond!!

I thought Barry Nelson was the original bond.

Well in the proper films, i.e. Dr. No - Casino Royale, Connery was the first actor to play Bond hence making him the original Bond!:pac:

It's official - Sean Connery is the winner.

Daniel Craig a distant second, Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore giant turd.

And he's only made one film. I think he's being judged on the era the film is being made more than anything else. The Bond franchise is a lot different today.

For the record - Roger Moore's my favourite!! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,592 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

    Roger Moore = The Lose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

Dalton ftw. I found his bond movies had a good ratio of gadgets to action. The older ones didn't have enough gadgets and too much martinin shaking, the newer ones had invisible cars ffs. Daltons movies where just right and the most entertaining imo.

Craig might be better, but then I'm not naive enough to give it to him after one movie. We'd all of given Brosnan the best bond badge after goldeneye but look how that turned out.
