How to change from iPhoto default when downloading from camera

    hi there,

Not sure if this has already been answered. I have Mac osx, and each time I go to copy images from my camera or a card reader, iPhoto opens automatically. I notice that this creates a couple of folders (originals, data, modified). I come from a lot of years of PC using, and like to be in control of folders, and where images get saved etc. I would prefer to just disable this feature, and copy the pictures to a folder specified by user, and work from there. I think that iPhoto with the duplicate images, totally eats up the hard drive.

    Any ideas???

    thanks a million

The option is in the iPhoto preferences somewhere.. I'm not at my Mac at the moment so I can't tell you exactly where! Google for it. :p

Go into iPhoto preferences and in general, click on connecting camera opens; you can set this to no application. This should sort you out better :)

I'm also having a problem doing this.

I think I may be using a different version of iPhoto to you guys because I don't have any camera options in the General pane (or any other pane of preferences)

    Mine's iPhoto 5

Have tried Google but to no avail

Be careful that you understand the consequences of doing this. While you might not like the folder structure it is fairly transparent in use .

The reasoning is that the original images taken from the media are stored safely and never touched, when an image is altered that version is saved elsewhere.

A thumb is also created for each image to speed up browsing.

These are useful features. The extra folders only get larger if you edit an image from it's original version.
