STOREX MPiX-355 Media Player

I purchased the STOREX CLUB MPiX-355 from this site: http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/525074/art/storex/mediaplayer-club-mpix-355.html and it was delivered to me yesterday evening. Seems the hard drive faulty since you can hear clicking sounds coming from it and you get the 'Not responding' messages in XP.

I did get it to work for about 10 min's and test a movie on it. Has anyone else has experience using this device? To me the menu for moves was not what I expected, I was hoping for a simple menu where you could browse through the movies by title. Instead in the media player, the screen should show a preview of the movie and you would click on it to play. The title was not displayed anywhere. This would be a problem if I had a load of episodes of say, Family Guy where the beginning of each episode is the same since all the previews would look the same.

Can anyone confirm if it can be setup to show title names or share their thoughts on the medai player? If it cant I might just return it instead of getting it replaced.

    Thanks,
    W.

    Hi

Im after purchasing the STOREX CLUB MPiX-355 from pixmania also.. and its doing the exact same as you described: "hear clicking sounds coming from it and you get the 'Not responding' messages in XP" I cant get it too stay on and when it does and i go to copy a film or episode onto it... an error message saying cannot find specified path or file name.. the drive will then disappear again and i cant get it back on. Have you been able to solve the problem with it??

anything you've found out bout it would be greatly appreciated as its driving my bonkers!!! :)

    thanks!!!

    Hi Buckers,
I ended up sending my one back to pixmania to get a refund. The only thing that might fix it is to use the fat32 application recommended by storex to format the hard drive or maybe try pluging it into another pc.

If this does not work, there is not much more you can do since opening it to swap a hard drive will void your warranty.

Hope you have better luck then me.

i have written a few emails to Storex and they don't care. I have an mpix355 multimedia hard drive and it stopped working with the PC
it works only as an external hard drive
with the pc it gets blocked in endless search

I sent them this email last week (3rd time I write to them)

I believe they might have a bug that the product does not work when the hard disk is fairly full,:mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Dear Storex

I am really diss-appointed with the MPIX-355 and by the fact that it is the third time I write to you and never got any support.

I hope your pride in your product will make you answer this time.

At a certain point my had disk does not work with the TV. It remains fixed in auto-searching.
I have about 350GB on it.
and it works perfectly with my PC

    Actions,
    1-

I tried scanning and repairing with windows XP andwasted a lot of time

    2-
I emptied it, e-formatted fat32 with swiss knife and placed some files on it

    Result: It worked

    3- I reloaded it with 350GB

Result: it does not work with the TV anymore and the autosearch image appears correctly but remains fixed in auto-searching even after 8 hours.

    Possible causes:

Are you sure it can work with 350gb loaded on the 400gb version ?
Perhaps there is a limit on the number of files ?

    What can I do ?
Obviously as you can see from point number 2,it probably it is not broken (I hope)
And it works perfectly with my PC.

I hope you will help this time
    regards
    Dany

I had the exact same problem too...

I just received the storex back from being repaired and its working fine now - but for how long more i dont know

now, theres a nice sticker on it saying "warranty void" so if/when it breaks again, i'm screwed

As a safety measure, i'm not going to fill it anymore than 400gig... just in case

Anyone have any other ideas on what could be causing this problem?

Also, is there any way of changing the interface so that it displays more letters in the file name?
All my files look like: "the.sopranos.season.1.episode9" - but all i see is "the.sopranos.sea" - so they all look the same

I dont want to have to change every file name...

Hi lads. I have this drive and now I too have breached the 400GB mark and lo and behold this is now failing,if only I had seen this post sooner ! I have mailed Storex and Pixmania and I have had no responses from Storex and a response from Pixmania about a seven day warranty ! Some customer service ! Could someone let me know who they returned the disk too etc ? I got this last Feb. so it's still under warranty ! Also, does anyone know if anything that I have can be saved on this ? I can hear the pin hitting the disk but she ain't loading so I fear the worst. Thanks in advance and sorry for opening up an old thread.
