It will take longer than that for you to feel better. You HAVE TO remember though: Lexapro will not simnply make you feel better on its own. The majority of the work must come from you. So, stop waiting around on your ass for it to work. Just get on with things and you will slowly notice things that were once hard becoming easier to do.

I have been on it for three years so far.

    I'm on Lexapro.

It will briefly make you feel worse before it makes you feel better.

Don't be relying on it alone!

    hey bubblebutt,
im on lexapro about 5 weeks now.
i have gone from a person who is crying/narky/moody/self-pitying to a more stable so to speak person.
the first week or two i felt very drowsy almost drunk from them,
but after that ive felt fine, in the last two weeks i have noticed my sleep paterns are messed up but i am going back to gp next week to find out if its linked to lexapro.
i have found my mind doesnt race as much when trying to sleep, id often have lay in bed for hours before falling asleep no i sleep almost straight away which is a relief but on the down side my sleep patern is disprupted whereas i always slept well.
would love to talk more about this with you :)

    Hiya,
I was on lexapro about 2 years ago. It took a few weeks (def 6 or 7) before i felt back to "myself" again but I still had bad days. After 6 months my doctor said I could start weaning off it. After about a month of taking smaller dose tablets I fell back with a bang and had to start all over again.

Although that story sounds rotten, I've been off lexapro for nearly 2 years and I'm in great form. It absolutely gets better but you need to give it plenty of time.

I would also agree with previous posters about getting on with it. It was such a chore to meet up with friends at the time (I just wanted to sit in and cry) it makes all the difference.

Go out to the cinema or for a walk with a friend. It really helps.

All SSRIs are known to take a number of weeks (5-6 weeks) to reach a steady concentration in the bloodstream, so unfortunately its effects take that long to kick in.

It might be worth having another chat with whomever prescribed it to see if other therapies are available in the meantime.

I did not want to start Lexapro and when I did it took me about 4-5 weeks of feeling a bit sick and extremely tired and tightness in chest but I am great now. Defo worth it x
