What is the ak74's inner barrel length?

VFC is 502mm, but what about clones?

For a dboys '74 barrel length, whatever is the closest length that wont show through the flash hider, preferably ending at the end of the inner barrel, and not entering the flash hider.

Bar someone saying different, I'll order a 500mm.

all 74 will be about the same if not exactly the same and ak47 are about 30mm less, can be precise as im not going to take mine apart at this moment but i think your 100~% safe.

Does the vfc barrel look like it is very much a match for the inner barrel, just looking in the muzzle (careful now!), so I know if i go 10-20mm over it wont be too much, just by eye how does it look?

Thanks for the quick reply by the way.

I stand corrected i just had a look at my vfc and my clone ak74 the clones inner barrel extends out into the flash hider by about 30mm where as the vfc does not extend out and finish flush where the barrel ends and flash hider attaches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

my vfc used a 456mm inner barrel, where as the clone ak74 has a barrel about 500mm +/- 5mm and is still hidden by the flash hider

Hmm, I may go for flush with inner barrel to be neat, the vfc was stated to be 500 but that was a user review, so may be the max upgrade barrel it can take.

Thats great Puding thanks, gives me a good idea of what to get.

I don't have the exact length of my VFC inner barrel off hand but it does extend well beyond the outer barrel, about 2/2.5 inches beyond. It terminates about 5mm before the main gas ports on the muzzle brake. That makes it a lot longer then an AK47 inner.

i just found the stock inner barrel i removed for the vfc ak74 tight bore i currently have in it, the stock inner barrel is exactly 502mm long from end to end.

So is it the tightbore barrel that is flush? If so what length?

I think Id prefer it to be flush with the outer barrel, the extra bit of length will have little effect.

the tight bore is a classic army and is 456mm long and finish just shy of the end of the outer barrel, where as the 500mm barrel that is stock will extend out into the flash hider and stop just before you can see it .

top is the 456mm and bottom is the stock 502mm

    What a nice picture.... A+

Thanks, that means I can get anything in between.

Anyone know whether or not the kalash ak74 has a .04 barrel as standard?

Yep, and an rpk, which I understand you are also getting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

AK74U for sure, RPK one day :)... Anyway who'd you order from? From what i've seen on red alliance the Kalash does have a precision barrel as standard

Tony for the aks74, mightn't get an aksu yet, but maybe along the line.

rpk off red alliance, its half finished though.

I may get a 6.03 for the 74 anyway, 500mm, will be very accurate.

    what make is the rpk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭Beast ASI

    Inokatsu RPK is amazing...... ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

Its a trapper industries front end, a tm ak47, and I'm getting a metal receiver to convert to an rpk receiver, and I'm making the stock.

Will up the voltage in a drum mag to feed reliably at high rof, as it will have a mosfet, big 9.6 and bearings, already has systema gears and a psg1 tightbore.

Then real steel rpk rear sights and bipod.

Inokatsu rpk lacks the authentic receiver, so does guarder, so does trapper industries, only gunsworkshop do a correct receiver, I'm making my own.

Actually, with regards to the barrel, would a 509mm (7mm more than stock) fit without being visible?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

i;ve run into the same problem its very hard to get hold or the correct reinforced receiver, i'm looking to make my own from the element body as a trial to see how it goes

    http://www.osnaz.net/Projects/RPKN/ProjectRPKN.htm

Thats the guide I'm going to try and follow.

What metal work tools have you access to?

Edit: Still need to know if I'd get away with a 509mm barrel in the '74

Edit 2: Aftermarket air nozzles, what brands have o-rings? On redwolf preferably.

Just a little nudge to reflect the above edited post, main Q is the 509mm barrel, and if its just a bit too much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

from looking at it i would say it is going to extend outside the flashhide by about 4mm/5mm

Thanks, a big no-no in my books.

do you have access to a dremel or something along these lines? i normal buy a inner carrel that is to long and then simple cut it down to the correct length.

Would that not ruin the crowning?

I've never had a problem, cut correctly, polished and debured and I've found no ill effects.

Yesterday I put a jigsaw with a wood blade through my shotty, inner barrel and all.

Suffice to say I'm not the master crafts man you may think :D

Sounds like I need one of those dremel things, its a rotary tool yes?

I dont think I'll risk ruining an inner barrel when I can order another brand at 500 or 502mm.

I use a razor saw for the barrels and most cutting its very thin and fine, i would not recommend a jigsaw, but a dremmel is great for lot of things and would recommend it for lots of jobs.

After yesterday nor would I

Is the razor saw a hand saw? Is it good for a straight cut as a powered one would be?

And for the barrel, how did you polish and remove the burrs, was that the dremel and a grinding head?

Is there a good place to find this stuff, my tools are all bulky construction sh1t.

the razer saw is manly a hobby saw http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/R/AE_razor_saw.html for cutting straight i just use a mitre block and some small clamps, i find it very useful, any good hobby store should stock this stuff, check out any rc shops or websites, i will post some links latter i don;t have them to hand at the moment.

I have a real dremmel that i got a few years back but there a lot of cheaper models about know that do the same job for a fraction of the cost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

perhaps you could use one of those small pipe cutters..the hobby ones? they would give a clean cut and a straight one...never tried it admittingly but it was what i always planned.

So did you use the dremel to crown the barrel, or was it necessary?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

i simple make shore the cut is 100% level and then counter sink the end of the barrel every so slightly using a small piller drill set up i have for the dremel (you of course need to use a level and what not to make shore the barrel is siting correctly) and that is all i've needed, comparing barrels I've cut short to stock barrels i notice no difference in spread or drop in performances.

Sounds like a better set up than I'd have access to, I'll be doing most of my work on the kitchen table by hand.

The receiver of the rpk I think I can do, but a precise inner barrel mod?
I doubt it, Id never be able to get it right.

Could I pay you to take 10mm off a madbull 509mm? Would you be willing to do that, if not I can get a barrel 0f around 460mm on redwolf.
