weird electrical interference... please advise

hi ok i moved into a new house in november 2006, then a couple of weeks after that my radio started making this weird crackly noise around every 60 seconds, it was never a regular interval though, whether the radio or a cd was playin or even if it was on standby the noise always happened, it didnt seem to be affected by the volume setting either as when i turned the music up the volume of the crackling noise remained at the same level and just as regular.

Shortly after the same thing started happening to a guitar amplifier i was using, so the same noise was coming out of hi fi and amplifier at the same time and it was a bit louder on the amplifier, which had a bigger speaker than the hi fi. Since they were both plugged into the same two plug socket i thought it was probably just dodgy wiring or something.

While watching tv in a different room one night i noticed some interference on the screen in the form of coloured lines flashing for a sec up and down the screen with about the same duration and consistency as the interference on my hi fi and amplifier, no crackling noise though. When i moved my amp into another room it worked fine and there was no interference so i thought that it probably was the plug socket, then around april or may the noise just stopped.

in October 2007 i moved into a new house and brought the same hi fi, which had been workin fine since the noise stopped 6 months previous, with me. then mid november again the same noise started happenin so i thought it must have been a problem with the radio all along.

I had a new amplifier in this house as well which had always worked fine, one day i tried pluggin the crackly radio into another socket to see if it would make any difference, i used the socket i usually plug the amp into and it didnt make any difference the noise was still there on the radio so i plugged it back into its regular socket on the other side of the room. Now when i plugged my amplifier back in the crackly noise started comin out of it so i brought it to a different room but the noise thing still happened.

So this has been going on for the last few months and its so frustrating i cant do anything about it, a couple of weeks ago I disconnected the speakers from the hi fi and put it on standby the noise was still there and then i plugged the whole thing out of the wall and it still happened so there was a radio with no power crackling every minute or so in my room, weird. I left it plugged out for about five days, all the time the noise was happening, then i plugged it back in, still there.

Another radio in the kitchen started making the exact same crackly noise about 2 months ago as well and the same tv interference that i saw before is now happening in this house. Im starting to think its me, i cant find anything on the internet about this kind of stuff, i know its not really paranormal but i know it shouldnt be happening and its really annoying. Also my friend says that i interfere with his ipod radio transmitter thing in his car whenever were driving but i dont know how reliable those things are anyway. Id appreciate any suggestions on anything to do or if anyone has ever heard of anything like this before. thanks

Some of the things could have very simple explanations. For the ipod transmitter a passenger in the car could very easily interfere with the low power fm transmissions. The problem with AV interference in your houses sounds a little like descriptions I've read of ground loop interference, which can be caused by wiring problems and I think can come and go.

But I do believe people can interfere with electrical equipment. I remember one day in particular I was in a really bad mood that morning for some reason, I had weird random computer problems for the rest of the day, including come corrupted files on a hard disk (which did nothing to help my mood :) ), driving home I first blew a bulb in the car, then the alternator, when I got home 3 separate light bulbs blew at different times. Any of those things on their own are nothing, a few together just a coincidence, but all of them together coupled with my mood that day and it really felt like I was causing it. Of course our minds do tend to draw correlations like that where there may not be any, but that doesn't disprove anything.

    Forgot to add this:
12-year-old "Magneto Man" breaks every computer he touches
article is a little light on details, but interesting non the less.

yeah i know its not really paranormal but as i said i havnt found anything on google about it, it does sound exactly like static discharging or something but that wiring problem sounds like it could be the cause who knows, maybe we can sell our story to someone!

I flagged this for Stoner, expect a fantastic answer to satisfy everyone!

em prepare to be disappointed. :(

OK here is my two cents,

We have a radio with a speaker
    A Hi Fi with speakers
An I Pod with a speaker.

OP can you please check to see if I am correct, is there always a speaker involved apart from the TV.

It does seem as if there is some sort of interference issue, but that would not IMO explain all the happenings. It would be very easy to check TBH, but I think that there may be more then one cause.

Does this follow you around from house to house? or just your new place? do your neighbors have similar problems
Have you recently changed mobile phones?
Are there overhead lines near the house?

Are you aware if you have a 3 phase supply into your house? (it happens the odd time someone gets in three phases as they want to run some sort of item for a home business, ,like a printing machine in a shed. they move out C/W the equipment leaving an unbalanced loading, poorly wired 3 phase supplies with balanced or unbalanced load fed via cables taking different routes or lengths can also cause large Elec magnetic fields)

Speakers have electro magnetic coils and a permanent magnetic, it would be possible for a magnetic field to induce a voltage directly to the coil, this would interact with the magnet , cause the diaphragm on the speaker to move and transduce the energy into sound energy.

Electrical and magnetic interference explains a lot of the issues except the crackle on a radio that has not been powered up for 5 days,
interfering with an energy source is completely different to creating one.

So there are lots of possibilities, checking yourself out with some EMF meters and comparing them to other people would be a start.

If your having electrical problems you call an electrition. Also check with your neighbours. We had a problem like it and it turned out to be our fire that was causing interference. Nothing there suggests paranormal.

Just because there may be normal explanations for things doesn't rule out paranormal explanations either. And the events the OP describes have happened on and off at different times in seperate locations, which I think is enough to at least include the possibility of the paranormal.

I just find it funny that somebody is having electrical issues and they think paranormal first. You just need to rule out the fact its not a problem with your house .

Having said it was happening while unplugged rules out a wiring issue, its a frequency coming from some where, possibly you, were all made of electrical currents and impulses, but to be honest i havent a clue why this is happening.
The only true thing I know is that we know nothing about the true inner workings of the universe.

As i said twice already i dont expect it to be something paranormal just that i couldnt find any info anywhere on something like this.

As regards Stoner's comments yes there is always a speaker involved except in the case of the tv, and theres no wires over the house or any pylons nearby and the wiring in the house is normal, i changed my phone last august, and i dont know if the neighbours are having any problems.

The only "following me" this has done is from my old house to the new place, which is why i thought it was weird, i havnt noticed it happening if im listenin to the radio in a friends house or something.

The issue, you mentioned, with the magnetic field in the speaker sounds like quite a specific problem in that it might be unusual that it starts happening to three separate speakers in the same house within a few months of each other or is it a common problem?

No it's not common, but you'd need to investigate if there is a common denominator, as in all the speakers are fine, but something else is causing the interference

    Hey,

I can't really offer a solution as such but I can tell you that it happens more often than people admit. I've had my bedroom light wrecked loads of times, so much so that I don't even put a bulb in anymore. It hops out of the socket and lands on my bed usually. Had an electrician look at it and he cant explain what's wrong, it also makes all the lights in the hall and kitchen black out too. Last time it happened was the night our houses old tenant passed away. She was probably just passing through or something. Also my DVD player switches on and off whenever it wants and the C.D player plays random songs!!

So don't worry, everybody seems to experience this kinda thing every now and again!! :D

I was on EastCoast FM the other night and the other guest was a homeopath (spelling?) he had given one of the presenters a remedy before when they had alot of weird electrical stuff going on around them - seems it worked a treat for them but I can recall the remedy.
