I'm on Dianette for my skin and sort of for contraception. No problems whatsoever except that I always forget to take it when I'm drunk or tired etc and have almost monthly scares.

I think the non hormonal coil sounds about right because I'm 20 and won't want children til I'm 25 at least but I want to stay on Dianette for my skin. Can you do that?
How much does it cost? I know about the side effects and risks and I could deal with that.

I'm generally a forgetful person and I've tried all sorts of reminders to no avail. I also lose my wallet, scarf, hat and phone on a weekly basis. It's not fair on my boyfriend if I get pregnant. I also like the thought of being doubly protected so my chance of getting pregnant is about 0.0004 compared to 0.02 ish.

i had the hormnal coil, mirena fitted and it was great for my skin, however, doc said they only insert it in women who have had child, something to do about stretchyness of cervics, so ask doc if you can have a coil fitted if you are childless.

Yeah I have Mirena as well and it's a god-send. My gyn told me that they won't give it to anyone who hasnt had a child, unless it's an extreme case. THis is because of physical reasons, but also because they dont want the coil to turn into an excuse for not using contraceptives to protect against STD's,

Having said that, I have no kids and I got one ;), but that's because I got it for med reasons. Had it put in under anaesthetic.

No you can't combine two hormonal contraceptives, too much hormones and they would probably interfere with each other.and cause you side effects.

I set a recurring alarm on my phone and that stops me forgetting. I have a second one set for around the time I go to bed as well just in case I forget the first time. :)

It's your boyfriends responsability too. Why don't you have him set an alarm on his phone too, maybe an hour after you were supposed to take it, so that he can remind you as well.

Also I find that the time of day you pick can help. I take mine at six O clock because that is a time that I am generally not busy and not likely to be drunk or asleep. I get the impression you take it in the morning? Added to this I always keep my pill in the coat that I generally wear to college or with my money. That way it's always with me.

If you do forget it use condoms for at least two weeks afterwards, just to be safe. I know they suck but it's better than a baby.

Oh and by the way Dianette is not designed to be a long term pill as it has a higher than normal dose of hormones which may increase the risk of cancers in the liver etc. So if you are going to the doctor I would discuss this with him/her as well.

OP its best to talk to your doctor about this. No one here is qualified to give you advice unfortunately.

If your doctor knows you well enough you could prob give him/her a call.
