Which Casein?

    Going to get a casein protein for night-time. What are your recommendations?

    power bar do a casein, whey mix, that will cover your slow release and faster release too! not big on casein though-just as easy to eat some lean meats, chicken-fish etc...

    Muscle Milk is quite a good casein/whey mix, its tastes great too.

    I've never tried matrix from nutrition x but its looks good, i might give it a shot myself.

    Possibility that you are sweating the small details here.

    I have never seen any get dramatic differences in size/strength/speed whatever because the use specifically caesein.

    I have seen people do well just by getting in some protein before bed when previously they were not though.

    Ah not really - I've been getting a meal into me just before bed, but its plays up with my sleep a bit. Also, a mate of mine (who has made great gains) gave it a big thumbs up, as it is 6/7 hours without food.

    I get my Casein in Tesco, the brand is Bodyfortress for about €7. I mix it with natural yogurt and (tasteless) fine fibre before bed. I find if I take whey powder it digests much too quickly and I wake up hungry by 5am. With casein I sleep till the alarm goes off:D

    What do y'all reckon?

    If you want to get REALLY particular about it (which ya seem to do since you're considering caesin for night time!) then you want a protein blend that can be digested across a long time period. So you might want one that digests quite quickly so you're not starved of protein initially, and one which breaks down more slowly as the night progresses.

    So to that end, pro-matrix would probably be better!!

    EDIT: but if it was me, I'd probably just have some whey and milk before bed!

    It's fine once you pick a course of action and act on it. If you were sitting around twiddling your thumbs thinking about all the things that COULD happen and not doing anything about it, then I'd be giving out to ya!!

    Aye - I took a break there for a week and a half, but in the meantime I returned to a sport I have to look good for, and everybody commented on the great gains (2 and a half stone / 35lbs) I've made. So it was kinda one of those "wow, its all worth it" moments, and also a reminder to keep it up.
    So rejigged the diet a bit, and looking to gain as much as possible in the next couple of weeks. I figure the casein might help a bit, but I'm under no illusions that it's the gym work and the regular diet that makes the difference.
