    Howye all,

If building a concrete storey and a half house (normal rectangular house with 12 metre front/back wall, 9 metre gables, two windows either side of door/porch on ground floor and three windows on top), what is the normal type of construction for the front and back walls, i.e. block sizes. I have seen 6 inch block used for the inner leaf but is this generally the case ?

    thanks..

standard cavity wall is 100mm outer leaf 110 cavity, 100mm inner leaf

sometimes the inner leaf needs to be widened in cases where a concrete slab floor is being incorporated and manufacturers require it.

so there would be no real need for 6 inch block if a timber floor is being used then. an architect was saying it would be needed if there were 5 windows across the top, as the wall would be weakened considerably and not be able to support the roof..

    don't design by forum .

I have seen 215 inner leafs justified

your "half storey" structure may well require a 215 inner leaf and ring beam

    get an engineering input
