I saw three's Pre-Pay mobile broadband offer and think its a great idea, one thing though, id really like to use the service but that fugly usb modem their putting out is not to my taste as I have an expresscard slot in my macbook pro,

if i bought an alternate expresscard 3G data modem and just popped the sim in it would they notice ? also would i be able to get a sim off anywhere without buying said fugly modem ?

Dunno about the sim card, but make sure when getting a modem its either on 3 or unlocked. Dont buy an ex O2 or ex Vodafone one

Would it not be like the normal USB where the sim has been to be provisioned for data

yeah , its a usb modem with a data-only sim , but im wondering can i get the data only sim on its own without that modem, and then can i buy a sim-free modem off expansys , or would 3 sell me an expresscard modem with the pre-pay

i asked 3 rep if they sell sim cards on their own for the prepay broadband. he said no. as far as i am aware they do not yet sell sim cards on their own in ireland at all.
