Would anybody recommend buying the iphone in the states to use in ireland? Now that the dollar is 1.51 would be much cheaper!! Not sure if O2 would allow it be used on their network with the new price plans? Or would it have to be purchased through O2 as well?

i doubt o2 wil let you subscribe to an iPhone plan if you didnt buy the phone from them.

i have an iPhone in meteor and its great. i dont use mobile internet so not sure about its performance.

but i've heard that EDGE works on Vodafone & o2 on "normal" tariffs no bother.

the new price plans will only be available for the foreseeable future with the iPhone so that O2 can drive their contract sales, they have no real desire to provide a quality data plan for non 18 month iPhone subscribers. I bought one in the states last year and couldn't be happier with it. I dont use the mobile internet on it at all I generally have access to wifi and the Vodafone edge prices are extortionate. I had hoped to get a legit iPhone when they were launched but with the offerings from O2 I dont really like offering my self up for a jolly good rodgering, i'll stick to my vodafone plan.

Got mine in the states and im very happy wit it!
Its works perfect on o2 pre-pay! Just avoid using data!
You won't be allowed get an iPhone plan unless you buy one from o2.
If you are already on bill tho i think there data bundles work!

I'm off to New york on sat, Gonna pick up a 16GB and sell on my 8GB when i get back!

i recently switched from Vodafone to O2 and can confidently say that the data speeds and prices are substantially better than voda.

I switched over and added the 1gb data plan to my account for €15 p/m....not bad considering voda were charging €25ish for 50mb.

ditto to Thumper, mine came from the states too.

so do ya think i'd be better off getting the iphone in the states for $399 (about 260euro then unlocking it to use it on my current vodafone perfect fit 100 plan? Would that be a lot of hassle?

between two minds about wheater to switch from vodafone to O2 Iphone or to get it in the states.

not sure how the O2 iphone price plans actually work - 1gb of download - does that mean i can use the internet on the iphone to a maximum download of 1gig - would that be a lot every month? excuse the ignorance but not sure would it be adequate or not?

1gb would prob be more than enough evan tho every other country get unlmited.

If you are goin to need the data by one from o2, if not definatly buy one from the states. Unlock using ZiPhone and pop in your vodafone sim.

    Job done.

1 gb would allow you to browse around 100,000 pages or download about 18 hours of music. Just rough estimations to give you some idea.

that distinction doesn't matter.......there's no reason that an american one can't take advantage of the cheaper data from O2, don't tell them you have an iphone and just add the data plan.

what i would think about before deciding is whether you want to have peace of mind when updating the iPhone in the future. With an unlocked one, there is always the chance that an update with brick it, and you're always going to have to wait for each successive update to be hacked before you can update....even it can get complicated trying to stay current. With an official one, however, you've nothing to worry about going forward.

Ya its a fair point, i have no prob wit the tech side of it (i enjoy messin about wit the software:)) so i always overlook that as bein a downside!

if ur not sure bout unlockin and as babypink said it can be tricky stayin up to date, go wit o2 for peace of mind!
