Thought that was a good answer tbh....Most if not all will go with the cheaper seller.

You should do your research and then ask us again, i don't think we can tell you what to do when we don't know what you want to sell....

Or options you have, a friend once told me "you can get anything on ebay and i mean ANYTHING"

A good thing to do is sell shoes online. The best shoe to sell would most likely be from the Nike Air Force 1 range, one which people in Ireland and Europe will be looking for as they are not as easily findable here as they are over in America. However you can buy them in shops such as S!ZE and John David Sports and sometimes in Foot Locker. Make sure that you list all the details of the product including the whole name of the shoe and also its' size. Include pictures of the shoe, the inside of the shoe, its' lining and also of the details in the box to prove authenticity. Send shoes in their boxes. Seen as a lot of the shoes which come from countries in eastern Europe and in Asia, people suspect they are fake and so they are ready to pay extra, maybe even up to €20 more. I done some research because I was thinking of doing it myself, but if you get going and can maintain the business, you could make nearly €30,000 p/yr. You would have to powersell however. This could mean selling about 17 or 18 pairs of shoes per week at €20 profit everytime. Postage to the States is $35/€21 so that is kinda where you make your profit. Eventually you could start going into clothing. You could do this by visiting the kind of "american" clothing shops in the Phibsboro area and you could try and find "hookups", basically meaning clothes which match the shoes in colour and you could point people towards these other clothing auctions in the descriptions. This could mean that you could eventually make a decent wage of up to €40,000 p/yr maybe a little more. Of course, this would involve selling all stock you buy nearly so that could mean 20 pairs of shoes and 20 shirts a week. Starting up a website advertising your service may also be a good idea. Hope this helped.

Clothes shops make money on ebay.

    Dresses, shoes, etc.

You want to be selling expensive goods which are hard to get in Ireland.

Stay away from the cheap ****e.

In the last few years there have been a few documentaries/news items on companies who have transformed their selling power thanks to ebay. Bicycle and gym equipment manufacturers spring to mind (this is going back about 2 years). Depends on the product I suppose, but yes, it is 'possible'.

I think BBC did a segment on it a while back, maybe take a peek on their site.

If you have a bit of bottle, are a bit fed up with your current work situation and feel into a bit of a trip...

    Head to South East Asia...

I went to China before and I can remember that just around the corner from my hotel in Beijing was a phone shop and they had all the latest phones including ones that weren't out here as well as ones like Nokia N95's and the dearest phone in the shop was a Blackberry sidekick for €395...

Judging from this basis, you could make serious profit if you imported maybe about 100 of them...

That's €40,000 but you could easily turn that into €90,000 or more if you unlock the phones...

A good idea is to try and find information about expo's and such when you are over there so you can try and set up contacts with a few people who may be helpful when importing goods...

Just a thought, if you can get that kind of capital...

Obviously, market research over here as well as product research of the Chinese market is essential...

It's a risk but it could work out to be a great business opportunity...

Thats a good one conormurphy, my mum is going to China in April for a trade fair she's looking to import some goods e.t.c. I am researching on it(Capital, shipping, market trend).

It's quite hard trying to think of unique ideas that are money making spinners..

Any sort of clothes/shoes for non-standard sized people.
Suits for very tall men, clothes for big people, shoes for people with wide feet etc.

Oh, that should be exciting for your Mum MIN2511.

Will she be seeing the sites? If she is visiting the Great Wall of China, there is a market which sells authentic Timberland and Columbia merchandise. It is along the road opposite the entrance to the Beijing part of the Great Wall. It is a small market with about 7 or 8 actual shops, they aren't just stalls and they mainly sell pottery and Chinese arts. At the end of the market, there is a large hotel and the bottom floor is just entirely works of art. It was the only place I went where the goods were dear and the prices were unnegotiable. They sold mainly large Garden ornaments made of pure Jade.

But sorry I went off the point, the place which has the authentic merchandise sells t-shirts, jackets, rucksacks and other products, is exactly opposite the entrance.

I went into this place with about 6 of my friends and haggled some "Titanium Columbia Jackets" from €80 to €26, we were in a rush and he was eager to sell. He wouldn't listen to negotiations for the Timberland products though.

That may be a market for you there, the jackets came in special Columbia bags and came with certificates of authenticity which were actually in Chinese but I guess that's what they were.

By the way, can I ask is your mum's visit to China, profession related? If so, what profession is she in, do you mind me asking?

My mum has been looking to start up a exporting business for a while. She has some capital and isn't sure how much would be required, she learnt from a friend about the trade fair. She would be there for 2 weeks so i would say she would be viewing the sites as well. The last i heard she was thinking of importing printing paper (used by newspapers) but i am also looking at other options too...
Personally i think it's really hard to come up with an idea, that’s why i think the eBay venture is hard. You are not guaranteed sales or income, but like every business it requires risk

Well I have started a process of trying to make 10k a year off Ebay, first issue I hit was when I made 1k euro and paypal wanting more information and they are hounding me for different documents,I provided loads of information with regards passport, license, addresses etc but they are still not satisfied.

I have tried different and made a few different quid on each. Latest venture is selling kiddies ride on cars and sat navs :)

I have a local guy now who makes mirrors out of beech and he will give me them to sell for him and make some commission off him for that.

But I am still waiting for "that" product :)

I'm in the same situation as you are. I got a similar email from Paypal last week.

As to the OP's question, yes it is possible to make very good money from eBay. I know one person who does that selling shoes.

I put up some shoes that I couldn't shift in Ireland (even at cost price) and was amazed to sell them to Japan and Australia at prices that far exceeded what I was hoping for.

The history of winners and losers on these types of projects is not good typically only one for 100 will go onto make real money

    risks are many and varied

Some body who isnt nice has only got to claim truly or falsely you were dealing in a illegal way and they can stop you trading and try getting through to the help line to sort it out you might go bust while waiting in limbo

Other problems like you get a $100 item for $1 and the postage is $50 and the product is faulty broken whatever the insurance is only $1 and so you get stiffed for $50

Credit card companies wont supply details so if the address you send the stuff to isnt the address on the credit card you risk to be stiffed a few months later when the card owner claims his card was stolen
but you cant get credit card suppliers to verify if that is the correct address so as you cant get the info you cant pursue the issues
and worse if you been targeted you might suddenly find a few months later the entire months income from a period a few months before was all fraudulent stolen credit cards and you got to return all the dough and if you cant you go bust and I don't know what the credit collectors from ebay look like clean cut dressed in black driving limos with dark windows eeekkkkk

Paypal is also a big problem as they are not a bank but you have to give them access to all your other accounts and if somebody shouts fraud they can suspend all your accounts not just Paypal and try getting through to help line to sort out that mess out before you go bust

Umpteen horror stories out there on the web

real wild west stuff mixed in with the new wild east super cheap Chinese cheap copy stuff eeeekkkkkk

The enterprises that would probably work best are those that have a sales base already existing and ebay is a extension so if they fall foul and get stuffed they can continue for that period of days weeks months without the ebay until the service is restored

I wouldn't do a ebay deal for any reason but then I don't sell stuff and am just a buyer and could deal online with individual secure shops but unlikely to ever trust ebay or similar online auction outfits

I buy airline tickets hotel and car hire and cinema tickets software downloads online but never any hard artifacts seen to many friends stiffed from online forays with different vendors and sources from non existent shops or ebay scams whatever

but some people can make money from it so if thats what keeps them happy go for it but check out all the potential pitfalls and be on guard for the newest scams that can clean you out real fast and most victims dont often post what befell them as they pack thier bags and leave to something else instead

    derry
