Ripping dvd ps3

Is it possible to add dvd's to the hard drive on the ps3 so you dont need the disc to watch the movie? Tried google and there seems to be programs out there to do it, I thought I'd be able to just hit options and add the dvd no?

Unless you are talking about compressing down with PS3 Video 9?

Not using the Ps3 no,it can be done using a pc, google DVD to Divx.

In Ireland it is illegal to describe how to get around a copyright protection so we can't tell how to do it

Tobe honest, although you can do it with a PC and then transfer it over, its not worth the hassle unless you keep your DVDs buried away and play this one every day thus causing much annoyance.

as a rule i rip every dvd i buy and burn the divx to dvdr for handiness

means all the original boxes/discs stay mint, and can be put away tidily where i dont really need access to them
