went back to Moyross, armed with my slr , and only the 50 lens ... as Oriel said my first set wasn't great , taken with a p &s -- as i only had the 50 , i was really restricted to potraits , but wanted to do the place justice -- as i left heard on the radio there was another stabbing in the estate , but i like the reality and warmth of the people, despite the perception --
there is 18 in the set

And this gospel singer certainly did the place justice , amazing voice, spirituality is alive and well

Barry - we might turn you into a portrait photographer yet :D

From your set, you obviously found the joys of the 'close up people shot' and those i've seen are really different to a lot of what i've seen you posting. Ok, i'm biased in so far as i like 'people' shots probably better than 'thing' shots but thats only my 'cup of tea' for ya.

I really like #2 posted here and probably every one of the moyross close up portrait shots that you have included in the flickr set at the link. I know you wouldn't have set out particularly to achieve that as i think your work is probably attempting to capture something far deeper but then again to my humble eye, the portraits (#2 and in the flickr set) are possibly some of your best work that i've seen.

The DSLR adds some technical benefits over the previous P&S and while critique is probably possible, I think that the mix of what it is you try to do (that i think i'm beginning to understand) mixed with the better gear gets some really great shots.

I like the close up personal stuff - the elusive story that i think you sometimes are trying to capture can often be found quite simply in a facial expression. I came across some research which suggested that eyes, face and bodily form (in that order) are what in the general scheme of things are considered pleasing. I think this is often true.

    Cheers.

cheers ancatdubh -- just wanted to acieve something better than my first attempt , wasn't sure what -- i really like th 50 lens , but your kind of restricted to potrait close ups -- number 1 was done with the 50 , and would have been better with a wider lens , but didn't want to look nerdish with a big bag of gear -- i think the potrait stuff helps get across the character of the people , which was marred by yet another stabbing -- but i've made connections there , and will go back
