    What's your budget?
    What class? i.e. Focus/Corolla/Astra etc, Fiesta/Yaris or Mondeo/Primera or any other than the ones mentioned above.

    Daihatsu Charade/Aygo/Yaris/Swift or even the 2008 Mini if your budget can stretch to that. It's got stop start technology which means the engine will cut out to save fuel automatically instead of letting it idle in traffic. Simple innovation but very worthwhile.

    OR a 1.4 civic, (or the 1999 1.5iLS vtec which I have for sale:D).
    Older almeras are good too but they're very dull.
    1.6 Carinas, Avensis etc can be good if you wanna get into a bigger car.
