Media Player Classic issues

    Hi,
I recently got a new Dell Vostro 1500:
    V1500 CORE 2 DUO T5470 1.60GHz,800,2M 1
    Vostro 1500 15.4 WXGA+ True Life 1
Vostro 1500 Black cover Camera 1
    2048 MB 667 MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x 1024 MB) 1
    Hard Drive 160GB Serial ATA (5400RPM) 1
    Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive 1
    256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 1
Irish/Spanish Modem Cable and Adapter Internal V.92 Data, Fax, Voice Functions 1
    Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-PCI Card EUR 1

    Using Windows XP Pro.

I was opening an AVI file, XVID I think, with Media Player Classic version 6.4.9.1 (from Klite Kodec pack) and there was a blue and green band of dots and blocks taking up about a 5th of the screen near the left hand side. The colour was also off and there was a little faint mirror of the image to the right of the main image.

I tried it in the Nero video player that's used when making a DVD and it was fine, then I messed around with Media Player Classic and changed the output to Haali's video renderer and the picture was fine too.

However, I'm also having some issues with DVD's, the sound is a bit dodgy and keeps breaking and sometimes the picture is slow to load.

It's definitely not a problem with the media itself, I reckon something is up with MPlayer Classic or maybe my video/sound drivers?

To be honest, I haven't a clue so if anyone else has any advice or has experienced this too, I'd appreciate any feedback :)

    Hi,
thanks for the link. I was recommended that site before actually but I don't know which one is for my card? When I go to search for drivers, it's all just numbers and there is no name similar to my card:confused:

Cool thanks :) I think I was looking in the wrong place :o

I see nearly 30% of people aren't happy with the driver though? That's not too good is it?

    Cool thanks again :)

Just wondering though, why are there so many different ones? Why isn't there just one driver per card? How do you know which is the best for you and why should I download one over the other? How do I know it'll be better than the one already installed on my computer and is there a danger with installing these ones at all?

If you really want to be safe, you can imput your model no into dells support page and download latest ones for that laptop, chances are these ones are very outdated and there are new, better ones available, if your worried ensure system restore is enabled and if any driver install goes pear shaped, you should be able to restore to last known good configuration when prompted, its probably worth trying the ones from www.dell.com first if you havnt used modified drivers before, although at the end of the day there all the same!

Ok cool, might just take the gamble :)

Sure I can always use system restore! Now hopefully if I install the drivers it'll fix the issues with MPC :)

Ok cool, seems to have fixed the issue with the blue and green band. The DVD is still having trouble though, actuallyyyyy... think I might know what's wrong now, testing while typing this, may have something to do with not having the right audio output selected... actually maybe it's not. The sound was jittery one time and not the next. Hmmm

What codecs do you have man? I guess that could be the issiue, try downloading a codec pack such as K-Lite could help

    I'm using Klite :(

Seems sometimes the DVD loads it's fine, others the sound jitters, and if I fast forward (by clicking a point in progress bar) it will start jittering again. Maybe it's my DVD drive? :(
