Tips for moving within the I.T. industry.

    Hi Folks,

I'd really appreciate any advice you can offer as I know that some of you actually work in the recruitment field or are well-seasoned I.T. professionals. I have been working as a software tester (system and localization) for the best part of the last decade. I quite enjoyed the work in the initial years but have grown tired of it over the years. At the moment, I have a reasonably well paid position in a large organisation but I don't intend staying here long term for various reasons.

I would be open to moving into testing in another organization where a better work / life balance is achievable. Ideally, I would rather change direction and try out a technical writing or project management role. How feasible is this for someone coming from my background?

Also, are agencies the first step in seeking alternative employment? I have only used CPL in the past. Can anyone recommend other agencies who have a high placement rate.

Apologies for the incoherence of the above...

I think my company are looking for PM; there is a general progress from QA Testing which is either Business Analyst or Project Management.
Recruitment agents; i can recommend Archers as well I have a contact there so i can pass on her details as well.
But my advice is, you have been employed for a while so you can pick and choose what organisation you want to work in. Why bother going through recruitment agents? You should apply directly.

Send me a PM and I would pass on the details

It might be easier to move into a PM role within your own organisation first, before taking the jump to the outside world. Have you advised your manager that this is your objective, and looked for support in terms of training and mentoring?

The place where I work is looking for QA people, and we have a pretty good work / life balance and our work is not just confined to testing (we help develop requirements and have a lot of input into the direction of the product.)

It's a lovely place to work. PM me if interested.
