The article is entitled "Is depression good for you?". It goes along the lines of mild forms of depression being a normal defence mechanism which helps people reappraise their life-situations, work through things and come out stronger the other side.

There's brief anecdotal evidence from people like Kelly Holmes who suffered from depression before turning things round and winning her gold medals. The main academic drive for the article seems to be from a Dr Paul Keedwell. I've had a look for his publications but there doesn't seem to be anything related to this particular theme.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across anything empirical on this view-point, would be very interesting to have a read-through.
