suppose I will go anonymous for this, it is sort of personal. Here is my story so, I am in the last year of my degree and working on my thesis at the moment. It is due in 4 weeks but I seriously cannot focus. Everyone else has loads done which makes me feel worse. When I eventually do get a little done, I draw a blank soon after and can't continue. I'm worried because it contributes to a large portion of the overall degree result. Any ideas or help appreciated.

did you go out at all Rag Week? Its built in there to let us all blow off a big hurrah of steam before we buckle down to the work. People who get all their fun in tend to sit down and get the work done more frequently. Sitting and worrying about it only perpetuates the problem.

All I can say is Start. Put on some classical.instrumental music and get down to the dirty, one small step at a time, until you get into the rhythm.

actually RAG weeks about raising money for charity.. ect ect *not the time for my rag week rant*
im the same as you op. havnt been able to focus. two big projects due soon, in final year, need a 1.1 ect.
the thing is i was the same last semester up until a few weeks before everything was due. i sat down, did a timetable for the next week every monday, made plans with friends to meet up to discuss what we've done and studied. arranged my notes, did exam questions perfect answers, made time and just sat and learnt them. got 5 A and a B+.
you need to get into a positive mood. may i suggest www.you.youaremighty.com ?

OP would anyone in the course give you a bit of a crutch? Just enough to get your feet wet you know?

Not being funny OP but you need to stop procrastinating. First thing I would do is talk to your supervisor, make a plan and stick to it. You would be suprised how much work you could do over a weekend if you stuck to it. What degree are you doing? The reason I ask is because a software project can be very different to a written thesis in execution (I've done both).

OP I'm assuming you have an adviser? Talk to them about not being able to work and they might be able to give you a bit of a push. I would also make out a timetable like spinandscribble said and force yourself to sit there and do some study for an hour. Even if for the hour you feel like you're getting nothing done, any small thing is better than nothing. What I do when I can't focus is go the library. Make sure I have all my books and laptop with me and hole myself up in there for a while. It's relatively quiet and there are no distractions so I have to study. My brain also associates the library with study so it's easier to get started, whereas at home I associate my bedroom with relaxing and the sitting room with TV so I get nothing done. Maybe the same is happening for you?
