are there any pedals for normal electric geeeetars that give a bass type sound..hypothetically, if u were in a band with no bass but 2 guitarists, one could give simple bass riffs using a pedal? possible? :F

There are tons of pedals that will do that for you. It won't sound *exactly* like a bass, but it'll do a fair approximation and provide some bottom end.
Most of the octave pedals have dial-ins for dry (your guitar sound) and the octave doubled sound.
Now I'm curious...I'll go home and try the octave shifter on my Boss ME-50 and see what happens. :)

    Here's a cheapish oct pedal:

Can you get a bassy sound from effects? - yes.

Will it sound like a bass? - no.

Conclusion, get a bassist for your band. :D

Why not go Power Trio? One of you stay on guitar and one move to bass?

or get more strings on your guitar!

You can get an octave down pedal, this will give you a lower octave note. Most of these I've played through have poor tracking and they won't work at all for chords. They can add a bit of meat to your sound but won't fill the gap of a bass.
One of you could tune down or get a guitar with extra strings. This is a great way to get some low end into your bands sound, also if only one of you do it you can play some interesting harmonies and challenge yourself to come up with some great parts.

my podXTL does it, the 3 heaviest strings sound very good, quite like a slap bass sound, but go to the 3 higher strings and it sounds like a cat drowning....or maybe thats just my playing....hmmmm:p

What heresy is this? Replacing bassists with effects pedals?! Madness!

Theres no such thing. Bass guitar is essential! ESSENTIAL! Machines won't steal our jobs!

I have the Electro Harmonix Octave Multiplexer which is cool. It doesn't sound like a bass but you can get adjust it to get nice fuzzy synth bass sounds or really mellow low notes.

Tracking is so so & doesn't work for chords. The EHX Pog is supposed to have very goood tracking & works for chords, but it's quite pricey.
