Help! Don't want to loose weight from the breasts...

    Hi,

I've a friend who is slim already (size 10) but who wants to lose her excess weight and tone herself up. We joined the gym a month ago and have been going 3 times a week ever since. She wanted to mainly get rid of the weight on her stomach and arms and has been doing just a general workout - treadmill, rowing machine, stepper and bike - but has noticed she isn't losing weight from anywhere apart from her breasts.

This is a problem! The whole point in her joining the gym was so she could get her body more defined to help balance out her smaller breasts (a-cup). And is extremely dishartened to see the weight dissapear from her breasts, the one part she was adament she didn't want to lose from, and no weight loss/toning anywhere else!

Are there any specific exercises she should be doing to minimise the breast reduction and maximise the weight loss on the rest of the body? I am well aware that it is extremely difficult to target certain areas of the body for weight loss - the weight will fall of wherever it pleases. But any help at all would be amazing as she's so upset by it!

    Thanks in advance.
    Lil

    she's a size ten.
does she actually have excess fat on her arms and stomach or is it possible she just lacks muscle?

did she get a program from a trainer?

amybe she should limit the cardio, and do some body conditioning weight lifting.
12 to 15 reps per set, and about 3 sets per exercise.
on a weight that she can lift 12 to 15 times, not more then 16 times really.
and no she wont bulk up.

you cant lose body fat from one area, but you can build muscle in one area.
"toning", i essentially building muscle while losing body fat, but at size ten she probably doesn't have much body fat as it is.

She doesn't have much body fat, no. It really is just toning, really. Her legs are grand, but she says she hates how she can see her stomach over her breasts as they're so small, so was wanting to change that. We figured that doing a general excercise program for a month or so first would get rid of the excess weight so that she could then begin to tone it all up.

No - she hasn't had a program from a trainer. I keep telling her to go speak to the guys at the gym about it as they're the experts and they're the ones who'll be able to help her but she hates being told what to do! I'm sure she'll ask when she's ready to ask. I was just looking for some tips for her in the meantime.

So you would recommend a little bit of cardio (like running on the treadmill and rowing machine?) followed by weights?

but it sounds like she doesnt have much excess weight, and building muscle helps shed fat as more muscle leads to a faster metabolism.

yeh but a little bit of cardio, just warm up amounts.
    5 to 10 mins.
i dont thnink she needs to burn more body fat, i think she need to increase her muscle.

if she is working her chest, there ist much point in doing a run for warm up, using the rower would be better.

she should do a warm up set of the exercise also on a low weight just to loosen up the joints.

now make sure to tell her she wont bulk up from doing some weights.
make sure the weight she is ligting isnt too light.
not much use lifting a weight 15 times when you can lift it 25 times.
keep the reps between 12 and 15.

also resistance training is one of the few methods to slow down bone becoming less dense, so it is advised for females to do also.

she should get a trainer tho who can set her a programme for her goals.

If she built her pecs up it would help give her boobs some "lift".

according to most (not all) research papers ive read and lectures ive attended spot burning is impossible so she cant choose where she retains or loses fat, the body just decides where to lose it from

you can manipulate where you put on muscle obviously through exercise but dont know if that helps - want to turn small breasts into pecs?

but if you want to clutch at straws i suppose dont exercise the chest so you dont build muscle or lose fat from it (if you believe in spot burning) and build up areas around it - but that's all nonsense

ehhh basically.....exercise and try and be happy with how you (your friend :o) ) look and feel good too!

and where breasts are concerned i think quality over quantity is paramount!

When I lost weight pre-gym then it went from my boobs first. Eventually I put it all back on so had to try again. I started going to the gym as well as controlling my diet. I had a programme from the guys at the gym that involved cardio and resistance training with weights. This time by boobs have not disappeared, in-fact they are better than before ( I put it down to the weights and particularly the pec dec) which is pretty nice considering I have reached an age where everything should be heading south.
Take advice from the gym guys and get a programme. They are the professionals

does this mean lift it 25 times or lift a heavier weight 15 times ?
