    Hi,

I am looking at a MKV GTI with close to 50k miles on it. I know the timing belt is supposed to be replaced every 50-60k so I want to have a price to bargain the seller with.

So I am looking for an average industry price of getting the timing belt replaced i.e. from a VW garage.

Could anyone give me a rough price range.

    Thanks...

Ring a VAG service dept and ask - then instead of having a figure in your head from a board on the internet that might cost 4 or 5 hundred euro, you have a definative figure from the main dealer to hammer down the price. Also, price the cost of tyres per pair for this car.....and price the cost of a new set of pads and discs installed from VAC (if it needs them and as a sports/performance car it might!) to have in your head - esp if the car will be headed towards an NCT soon.

In short, do your homework - and you could save a bundle. And Remember, HAGGLE HARD and dont be afraid to walk away from a car if you are not getting a stunning deal - the market is flooded with second hand cars...............
I went to view 2 cars last weekend and walked away from them both.........because they to me, did not represent good value for money in terms of the overall condition of them - considering all the other cars that are out there.......theres's TRUELY never been a better time to be a buyer.

There are serious savings to be hard if you research well and haggle like hell. Enjoy.:)

    Cheers for reply.

Yeah already called two VW dealers but they ask for chasis no. and reg before quoting. I gave a false reg but they said it wasnt a gti after doin a search.

Annoying!! Dont know why they do it. I asked for a rough quote and they said they couldnt. So I thought maybe someone here had it done.

Ill take it at 500 and see how the haggling goes!!!

    Cheers...

Not sure about the timing belt, but yes deffo check the tyres for wear, cos they're expensive to replace! I had to replace one recently on mine (pothole), €235 for one bridgestone! (I wanted to get one the same as what was on it)

Make it €575 for vat and stuff. A good specialist garage will do it for that anyways I'd say.

Have a look at carzone and get the reg number of a gti golf then ring the dealer again for the quote :)
