    Hi All,

Is there way to upload photos directly into a set in Flickr and not have them displayed on your main phot page? I suspect not...

could you not select private instead of public when there uploaded???

oh yes, could try that. Do you have to give specific access to private images? How do you do that?

I really find Flickr not very intuitive to use regarding stuff like this. I was hoping to be able to upload images to specific sets/collections for indiviauals to see and not have those images displaying on my 'main' page...

AFAIK there's no way to do that. Flickr's 'philosophy' if you want to call it that, is based around your photostream being a continuously updated photographic record of your life, or something of the such. Thats why they've always resisted any attempts to allow the above apparently. You'll notice you can't arbitarily re-order your stream either. Same reason as the above. But of a pain, but there are other hosting options, or there was a post here recently about setting up your own hosted solution.

I was trying to do this today!

You can't get rid of the latest uploads, but you can control the size they appear from the "Your Account" page... look for "Your photos page layout"...

Alternatively if you are linking to your flickr, link to your sets only by adding /sets/ to the end of the standard URL*. At least then people have to click on your username to view anything outside of your sets.

    * note I resisted the urge to 'innocently' link to my own account!

    thanks for the replies all.

On the hosting options, anyone ever used this? I'm pretty useless at anything web-related, so would this be a good option?

Upload the photos as private, and share them using a guest pass, more info here

    This is what it says

    Guest Pass
Ever wanted to share private photos with friends and family without making them go through the rigamarole or opening their own Flickr account? Yes? You have? Sorry - I can’t hear you … never mind: we’ll just assume you have wanted that. Well now you can!!!

You can go to any of your sets and click "Share this set" to create a guest pass. Enter up to 50 email address and choose whether you want the recipients to also have access to other friends and family photos in your photostream and boom: it’s sharetastic. Guest passes work with secret links so you can send the link yourself or have us send it for you. When you want to reign things in a bit, you can expire the guest pass at any time.

We’re especially happy about this one since it’s the second most requested feature of all time (and work has already begun on the number one most requsted feature - we’ll eventually get ‘em all).
