Its done on a buyback deal. The same mechanism as used for hire drive cars.
Your purchasing the car for a period of months, nissan sign a dealer up to buyback the car. Your then issued with a new model.

You have to pay full list price to get the offer.

i think this ad sails very close to the edge of legality.
you're not 'saving' 2,950 you're paying full price on a petrol car which is 2,950 cheaper than the diesel version, then in 2009 you can swop for a diesel. i presume they've got a shed load of petrol cars they want to dump before july when it'll be cheaper to get a diesel. still a new motor in 2009 can't be sniffed at but you're not getting a bargain now.

Isn't diesel much worse for the environment than petrol? I don't understand why the government are practically encouraging drivers to buy diesel cars!

Surely they should do something like remove all tax and VRT (or even just the VRT) from hybrid cars?

Diesel cars are better than petrol cars with reference to carbon dioxide, the global warming gas.

Diesel cars are better than petrol cars with reference to carbon monoxide, a poison.

Diesel cars are better than petrol cars with reference to hydrocarbons which cause cancer.

Diesel cars are similar to petrol cars with reference to nitrous oxides, which cause smog.

Diesel cars are worse than petrol cars with reference to particulates, which have unproved health impacts.

More and more diesels have DPF's(diesel particulate filters) which make a big difference
