Surprised nobody's posted about this, but there looks to be new ones on the site. The MB Pro has multi-touch, and they seem to have Penryn all round.

It's just been anounced a few minutes ago. I'm delighted they updated. I've been waiting for ages to buy a mbp.

I was hoping for a bit of a slimmed down job but oh well...

What's this I hear about having to pay $19 for the FrontRow remote on the new MacBook and MacBook Pro's?

EDIT: Yep.. odd decision it must be said!

Maybe I'll sell my spare one! :D

    It's a bit of a let-down to be honest!

    EDIT: What's going on?!

    US Apple Store:
2.4GHz model MBP comes with "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB"
2.5GHz model MBP's comes with "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB"

    UK Apple Store:
2.4GHz MBP come with "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 128MB SDRAM"
2.5GHz MBP's comes with "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM"

Have they cut the price of the basic 15" MBP by 100 euros? Oh hawt. I want one.

Edit: the remote control thing is a bit stupid alright but then again many people don't want/need them, there's half a dozen of them floating around my office unused except for when we want to piss someone at the other side of the room off.

Lame update. The only time I'll ever consider swapping my 2.16GHz MBP is when they incorporate a blu-ray player, increase the 15" resolution and give it a good graphics card.

Hmm, middle of the range MBP for me.

    i feel so robbed

first they dont tell me leopard is coming out very very soon
then they update the macbook - twice the mem and 40 gb of storage for
    i had 2.1 ghz now its 2.4

    ah well

I think it's a decent update. Not worth all the hype and rumors though. The mbp was due a performance boost. I would like to see blu-ray and higher res screens eventually but I'd say apple will wait another few years. Maybe until the release the successor to the mbp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

i can't really think of what it would take for me to upgrade from my 2.4 ghz mbp. it does everything i want (and i push it pretty hard) perfectly.
think it might be a long time before i upgrade.

i've jinxed myself now. Apple will probably release some new megamac next year and i'll feel oh so inadequate without it.

Actually I like the term Megamac.

No, you're thinking of the McBook.

    I'll get me coat...

LOL - if i had known about this i wouldn't have ordered my blackbook on Friday !
    It shipped yesterday.

The extra disk space would have been nice. not pushed about the processor upgrade.

Very dissapointed with the lack of multitouch on the macbook. Thought they would have been slimmer, silver with a backlit keyboard but no deal.
Looks like my quest to buy a new iMac goes on.......

There is still a chance you may receive the new model rather than the old, unless it has shipped already.

A Mcbook would need to have two Intels inside; then it would come with "chips" :D

and what with the inevitable overheating of new macs we'd all eventually have fries.

i too will get my coat.

    hehe!! Nice!

On another note, id like to complain, cos im only just noticing this now, that i cant see what im typing as my keyboard backlight has decided to go on holidays and i cant be bothered to put the light on. meh! I wonder why its being so stupid

    Now... back on topic :D

couldn't apple just do a firmware update for the touch pad on the macbook to make it multi-touch?

i'm certain it would be software only managing the multi-touch would it not?

Nope, it has its own Broadcom hardware controller. Future software updates should allow improvements/refinements to users with multi touch touchpads though.

They really need to let that 'Combo' version go...

    Bastards!

I bought an MBP in New York last Thursday, asked about the impending release of an updated version and was told "We know nothing about any upcoming updated versions of the MBP".

That said, I'm very happy with my MBP, the extra hard drive space, processor speed and video memory as well as the multi-touch pad on this newer version don't really do anything for me tbh. :)
