Hi all, not sure if this should be posted here or in long term illness forum, so mods feel free to move!

I was just wondering if anyone here has used Xolair injections for the treatment of asthma, and if so, what are your experienced of them?
I’m not looking for medical advice, just experiences!

I’m 20, and have had asthma since the age of 7. Up until the last year or so, it’s has been very controllable with inhalers, but in the past 1-2 years, it has gotten bad, and not even 3 changes of mediation has been able to control it. I have also been getting very bad allergies in the same time period, such as constant sneezing, itchy eyes, skin etc.

My GP recommended that I visit a consultant, and I went in October. He diagnosed me with allergic asthma and put me on a nebuliser for the past few months (v.inconvienent, but what can I do!!!)
Anyway, he told me about the Xolair injections and said that they could be the answer for my asthma; I may not need any asthma or allergy meds after a course of them. I started on them 8 weeks ago; I’ve had 3 so far and am about to go for my 4th tomorrow.

Has anyone used this treatment before? How long did it take for it to work effectively, and did you need many injections?

I’d be very grateful for any experiences, I’m a bit anxious for this to work, mainly because of the cost… It’s approx. €1000 per injection, and €150 per visit to the consultant to get it…. The Drugs Payment Scheme doesn’t cover it, either does VHI.
My parents say that they don’t mind paying for it, as they just want my asthma sorted for once and for all, but I’m a bit worried that it’ll be money wasted if it doesn’t work…

Anyhow, sorry for rambling on, and again, any experiences greatly appreciated!
