I'm flying to NYC in 3 weeks and have a slight concern, basically some dcikhead wrote "you mad f**k" on one of my passport pages (Very annoying) and I was getting a lot of hassle at South American border controls, so I tipexed (spell?) over it after particular abuse from a Brazilian customs official. How likely am Ito get hassle at US customs, bearing in mind you can tell it is pen writing that is begin blocked out and not any type of entry stamp or government. Your thoughts ladies and gents?

To avoid any problems that might arise why not get a replacement passport? You still have three weeks.

It really depends on the official on the day, so you are better off to get a new passport, it really is not worth the chance!! I had spilled water on my passport and when going to America last year the Irish security at the airport told me it was "no longer a passport" and the customs may not let me through, but it was up to me to risk it, cue hysterical tears on my part. Went through immigration at Shannon, not a bother!! When I got through all these strangers, who must have seen my tears in the check in queue were giving me thumbs up and smiles!!! The one good thing that came of the experience was that may luggage had to be put on standby and so was first off the plane in JFK!!! Needless to say I got a new passport the week I came back!!

Anyway, I would defo recommend that the 70euro is worth it for peace of mind and the possibility that your immigration official may be more strict than mine!

I think u wudda been better off not tipexing on your passport.
Immigration might think you are trying to hide something,
such as a deportation stamp (even though it is small).
I don't think they'd have an issue with a little graffiti,
perhaps might even see the funny side..

I'd try to remove the tipex if possible and keep it..
You'll probably get hassle at some border crossings,
but can't see you been refused entry into a country
(if you are entitled it) based on a little graffiti.
Might make for some good stories ;)

Hmmm, don't think so, but I am glad I am not the only one this happened to!!! Actually there was a bloke in the queue that looked like the same thing was happening, but due to the lack of hysterics, it was hard to tell, so maybe you are right!!

Some countries stamp a passport when a visa is applied for. This is usually small and if granted covered by visa. If you applied for any visa with tipex in your passport, you'd be refused.

Apply for a new passport, not worth the angst imo

US customs officers dont find anything funny.
I wouldnt chance it, and could ruin your holiday and plans.
