laptop problem

    my girlfriend was messing about with my laptop now when i turn it on it says physical memory dumped i am expecting the worse any one any ideas if this can be fixed or is it useless thanks

    When it says physical memory dumped, is it on a blue screen with white writing? If so there should be a stop code. It will be "STOP:" followed by some numbers and letters. Post up the stop code please.

    the stop code is c0000218 registry file failure

    It could be either the registry is corrupt or you could have a bad sector on the drive.

    Formatting and re-installing windows should solve the problem but I would use that as a last resort. Try this before attempting a re-install and see how you get on.

    windows xp was pre installed i do not have the recovery disc
