Looking to book a hotel, and there seems to be loads of different areas u can stay in. Want to be close to most things if possible, preferably walking, and easy enough to get to other places by public transport. Help.

    Thanks in advance.

Went to Rome last May and stayed in this place: http://www.lesuitediviaottaviano.com/eng/ours%20suites.htm, which is very near to St Peter's and the Vatican. (you could see the Vatican walls from our bedroom window). It is also only round the corner from a Metro station so easy access to everywhere else you don't feel like walking too. It only has five bedrooms but it was lovely.

One area to try and avoid is around the train station, which can be a bit dodgy.

If you look on www.tripadvisor.ie you can read reviews of hotels. It also allows to create a map of where the hotels are so you can see where everything is. There is a pretty good metro in Rome so along as you are near that you should be okay to get to places.

Stayed in Rome for a total of 2months last year and stayed in the same area all the time as it just so central.

If i were you book your hotel near Termini Centrale Station. You are walking distance from Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps et al and you're 2Underground stops away from Vatican + St.Peters and 4-5 from Colisseum + RomanForum.

Any other questions re:Rome dont hesitate. I could live there i love it so much

    Hi,

I stayed in Rome for 3 nights with my bf in May last year. We stayed in the cutest apartment. I think it is about 132 euro per night in total. But is unbelievably central. It is in the middle of Piazza Navona, which is brilliant for restaurants and bars. That is the great thing about Rome, everything is within walking distance. I hate walking with a vengance. But everthing was so close together. On the first day alone, we went to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and the Collosseum all walking distance. Second day we went to the Spanish steps and on the last day we went to the Vatican. Plus there is so much to see as you are walking around.

If you are interested in the apartment I got it on www.holiday-velvet.com which has a number of self catering apartments, but really could not fault one thing with the apartment we were in. The name of the apartment is Navona Romance.

Well hope that was some help

    Take Care
    Libby

    Stayed in http://www.astridhotelrome.it/index.html last year

its right beside stadio flaminio, is on tram line to the Popolo, so 15mins to spanish steps in the morning, 10mins to the metro. Is really quiet area, lovely hotel, and really nice reception staff. the free treats in the mini bar each day was a nice touch, some choc, some soft drinks and water usually. break to nibble on while getting the tram to the old town and strollign round in the morning.
