Irish Rail Delays - Communication with passengers !!!

Why is it that Irish Rail find it so hard to communicate with passengers when there's a delay with train services ??? Was standing on the platform at Coolmine this morning waiting for the 8.58am train until about 20 past 9 along with many other passengers, in the freezing cold, and not a single announcement over the intercom thing. How hard is it to let passengers know how long they have to stand there ??? It's ridiculous and no matter how much you complain to that company you get no where !!!

    Suzy,
No matter how bad you think the Coolmine service is - try the Sallins line. Train after train is either delayed or cancelled due to "operational reasons". IR don't give a damn about the eejits who pay the high fares for a crap service.

Yeah I've heard it's quite bad there. But still, there's no excuse for the bad manners of the staff at Coolmine ... the intercom thing is there for a reason !!!

Write to Mr Richard Fearn (Chief Executive) and Mr Car Carmichael (General Manager Northern and Eastern area). Both at Connolly Station, Dublin 1.
I've written to Mr Fearn multiple times complaining about the lack of info. I encourage you to do the same. Let Joan Burton know too.

I just posted off a letter to Car this afternoon. I put up simple timetables on the Coolmine platform last May and the staff ripped them down ("They're not official" - yeah I made up the times on them  )
I wrote to Mr Carmichael who said they'd consider my proposal (of simple timetables) for the December 2007 timetable revision). I held my breath

    Suzy,
    "operational reasons". .

have heard that so many times in the last few months, they need to change their phrase

The whole thing is so ridiculous !!! And what the hell is the point in having them digital display things there too ... they're there for years now and have never worked !!! Same at Castleknock, would it not make sense to make sure stations are in proper working order and that the staff know what "good customer service" means before they go building new stations to add more delays to our commute !!! The bus takes ages in and out of town but I'm tempted to give up on "Irish Snail Rail" at this stage !!!

Put all this in writing to Mr Fearn and Mr Carmichael. cc Joan Burton. Write to the Minister for Transport too.

Apparently the digital displays west of Drumcondra don't work because of the signalling system (though that doesn't explain why Phoenix Park station ones do work).

"Irish Snail Rail" is still a lot faster than the bus! I haven't used the bus for a few years because of it's slow speed.

Well, you would expect a train to be faster than a bus

OK, don't jump on me for this, but did you ask anyone what the situation was?

Im not having a go at you. But if you mean ring up and ask every time a train is late, you would be on the phone every day. They very very rarely bother giving any (truthful) explanation.
Its a waste of time complaining to irish rail. best thing to do would be mail bertie and say we will forget about the tribunal if he puts pressure on this shower.

You won't get my support for this proposal. IMO the problem is the Government.

Your original complaint was about a 22 minute delay on Monday morning. Victor was asking if you asked anyone about that delay.

I often get the 9:23 or 9:28 from Coolmine to Drumcondra and 17:38 from Docklands. In my experience they keep time quite well.

Of course I expect a train to be faster than a bus. I was commenting on the extreme slowness of the bus (#37 for me) and that even a delayed train is faster and more comfortable (outside commute hours).

Cheers Daymobrew! The simple timetable is eh.. simple but perfect.

Being passed on to all my other shivering friends who use the station. I'll make sure you get copyright ;)

Beats standing at the station with the Irish Rail atlas sized timetable & looking like a tourist!

Does anybody else this the the IR website is ráiméis?? You type in the stations correctly & it says "combinations of stations not permitted".. but if you click on the station & it works AND it takes an age to find the price of anything.

    Worst ever.

Oh, wait, that is late year's simple timetable. I'll generate a new one for 2008 and post links to it here. I'll PM you too.

Keeping with the 'simple' theme, generating them is quite, er, simple. Perl script reads csv text file. Import into OpenOffice to spit out a PDF. Done.

Attached is the Coolmine timetable for 2008. Two pages, one for each direction.

I've made the text files for Clonsilla, Castleknock and Drumcondra. I'll pretty them up and convert to PDF over the weekend.

The Clonsilla and Castleknock timetables for 2008 are attached.
The versions on the Dublin 15 Community Council site will be updated with these in the next few days.
