And with victory in the final match the Ireland Womens' team finishes third in the tournament.

The prospects for qualification were good when the team set off, but the entire tournament basically hinged on the result of the first match against Pakistan. Winning this would ensure they avoided a semi-final against South Africa, and winning through to the final would give them the place in the World Cup.

Sadly it was not to be, with a loss to the Pakistanis in the first game. Ireland recovered extremely well, and gave South Africa a run for their money in the semi, but failed to take that final spot and lost out on the World Cup place.

There are many positives to take from the tournament, though, and all should be proud of themselves. The future looks good, with a relatively young team and the prospect of good-quality ODI matches in the next few years.
