Is anyone else regiatered for this? Can't wait for it, sounds like a cool experience, swimming from the "mainland" to the island.

Anyhow, what's the cycle like, I'm guessing it's pretty rough/hilly?

Yeah, super event...very enjoyable. Swimming from mainland to the Island makes it quite unique. The locals really get behind the event and many enter as relay teams. The cycle is a 20km loop which takes in the most scenic parts of the island...a few uphill sections but nothing too ferocious. The run is an out and back loop so you can see the other competitors running against you. Looking forward to it.

Ah bugger. Didn't realise this board was here. I'm from that area but never heard of a triathlon being held there before. I've gone and signed up for a sprint triathlon up in Ballina which I'm doing in July. But then seeing as it'll be my first tri maybe I'm better off staying away from home in case I fail miserably!

Think it's a new enough Triathlon, entries filled up pretty fast.

Yeah, this is the 3rd year for this event. It was won by David Graham (Co. Down) the first year and Junior Heffernan (Co. Waterford) last year. Numbers were limited to 200-250 I think and they were filled very quickly.

Nuts, if the field is that small, it's going to be very, very obvious just how slow and unfit I am.

Don't worry, you defintely won't be shown up! plenty of locals participate in it and their main ambition is to reach the finish line without drowning or keeling over with a heart attack!:D

Ah fair enough. I've been gone the last 2 of those 3 years but surprised I didn't hear of it before.

Looking forward to my first tri in July. Biggest obstacle is my swimming is utterly appalling. But plenty of time to improve.

most races fill on the day they open.

Kilkee opened today (200 slots) and they are got.

Half-ireman opened at the weekend, expect that to be full by end of the week.

Joey Hannon will be full by tomorrow.
    Fingal is full already........

How did you manage that when the triathlon ireland web site says that registration isn't available till the 1st of April?

How's everyone gearing up for this?

Just 5 days to go now. The weather looks like it might be OK, which will make all the difference.

How's everybody set? I'm as ready as I'm going to be at this stage. Will take it very handy this week training wise.
