Hi, I'm travelling round Canada for 5 and a half weeks from start of June and need to how much money I'll need. Im starting in edmonton, then flying to vancouver, then to quebec but will have to use bus or train between quebec, montreal, ottawa and toronto. The flights have been booked so thats no problem, just wonering about accommodation, spending money and transport. Anyone have any ieas?

    Hey,

I'm in Vancouver for 4 months at the minute. The cost of living is probably a little less expensive than Dublin, but not much. If you're planning on stayin in hostels and aren't too fussy $20 a night will get you somewhere. You'll probably end up paying closer to $30 though. Just google "hostels vancouver" and a lot of sites will come up giving you an optin to book/view them I presume you can do the same for the other cities on your trip!

Alternatively, and it's not for everyone, but a friend who I've made over here swears by www.couchsurfing.com. This is basically where people let you stay at their place for a day or 2 if you're passing through, and maybe bring you out with their friends or whatever. Might be something to look at.

For your transport go to www.greyhound.ca. Book in advance and each of those trips should only be around $30ish, with Toronto-Ottawa maybe costing a bit more because it looks the furthest on the map. I think, can't access the site now for some reason.

For 6 weeks I'd allow $1000 for hostels if you're going that way....$25/night. This should be a reasonable estimate if you're not too fussy with your accomodation. So that's a little under €700.

Aside from that, it's up to you really! Maybe $200 worst case scenario for the 4 big bus trips. And, I dunno, maybe $250/week spending? I'm spending about that on average but then I am being forced to eat overpriced University food! And am living the college lifestyle so a pint or two a week thrown in there aswell

So yeah, you're gonna need about $2700. Or €1800.

Rent a camper van. Sleep in that. Bring noodles and a stove. And would possibly say to avoid Quebec unless you are writing a post graduate study in cultural alienation referencing French colonies in the 21st century.
