Hows it going, My mates sister is getting married in june and she has a little bit of hair on her cheeks and lower back that she is very concsious of esp with her big day coming up. So my friend and I where thinking of getting her a present from one of this laser hair removal clinics. Basically im just looking on ifo about,

The price.....how much would we need to spend? Would it take more than one treatment? How succesfull is the treatment? Does the skin have any bad reactions to the treatments? When the hair is removed is it gone forever or would she have a kind of stubble?

Im just looking on the low-down of this treatment so if anybody has had any experiences with this could they let me know? Thanks:)

I've had laser hair removal and while I'm no expert it does work better on pale skin and darker hair. It's something to do with the darker hair being able to absorb the light better.

Laser hair removal is very expensive! And I mean very! When I had mine done the therapist recommended a course of 6 and possibly more depending on how much progression is made.

That said I guess it depends on how much you want to spend on your friend. Urbana in Wicklow Street are having a sale on their laser removal http://www.urbana.ie/special_offers_at_urbana.htm

But the full price will give you an idea of how much you would normally be forking out

Is it the case that she is conscious of it just because of the wedding? Cos there are other solutions she could have it waxed or bleached?

The result of laser depend on each person. How dark their hair is etc. When I had mine done the skin was red and a bit tender for that day. Almost like a sun burn. You really have to take care of your skin while you're having treatment. I had (and still do) to put on factor 50 sunblock everyday, even the days that it wasn't sunny.

There isn't any stubble as such what happens is that you're told to shave the area (or the therapist does it for you) you get the treatment and they apply some aloe vera to cool the skin. Like I said the skin is red and tender for a couple of hours, maybe a day after the treatment. Then the part of the hair under the skin (the follicle?) starts to come out. This can look and feel like stubble but actually isn't.

While you are having treatment you can shave the area but not wax it as it interrupts the treatment cycle.

Sorry I should say that this is all based on my personal experience it may vary for others.

I think that it would really rude to buy something like that for a present for someone.

http://www.cosmeticenhancementsforum.com/ is a good source of info on LHR. LHR on the face can trigger more growth, and cuasehyper pigentation.

I had a friend with hair on her lower back, and the beautician told her that hair doesn't come back if you wax it a couple of times. She only had to get it waxed once to get rid of it.

Why? Its bothered the girl for years and she has confided in her brother and I......she would get it done herself only for the fiancial restraints on her at the minute, had a baby 9 months ago just bought a new house and with the wedding aswell ya know. So we said it would be good present for her as it would make her feel better about herself.

Thanks for the info guys much appreciated..........ut does anybody have a ball park figure as to the cost?

    Thanks:)

You could get her a voucher for a beauticians who also do laser removal. That way she could choose to get a few facials, waxing or the laser if she wishes. A bit more subtle in my opinion. The laser might not even suit her ... so it would give her more flexibility ....

    It is too personal.

Peoples suitablity for this procedure has to assessed before they decide to undergo the treatment. So while i think Glowings voucher idea is infinitely better. Cash would be more useful, imo.

Also wedding presents are meant to be for the couple.

Someone in ladies lounge got a hollywood by laser, she said it cost 700ish euro.

I've been getting my legs and underarms done for the past few months and I'm very impressed with it so far. I have quite fair skin and I've been told that I'm an ideal candidate because of that. I went to Australia for a fews weeks since I started and was told that I should wait until my tan faded a bit before getting the next session as it would work better on paler skin (something about the light getting to the hair follicle.

Yeah I've been getting my underarms done for the past few months (a session every 6-8 weeks) ... I've had four so far and despite the little bit of pain every now and again during the sessions, I'm well impressed !!! It is expensive at the time (€110 per session for me) but in the long run, it's cheaper than waxing or whatever !!! Would recommend it !!!

can ye not buy yer own thing from Argos and do it at home??

If the girl has expressed her concerns to you about her facial hair then absolutely go ahead and get her a present of some treatment. She'll be thrilled. If it's something you just noticed yourself and she has never brought up then you're best leave it as it would be detrimental to her confidence levels! I got the treatment but it didn't work because my hair is fairish in colour but I believe if the hair is dark the results can be amazing and will certainly cause an increase in her confidence to know that something is helping her situation. Beware...the salon will probably tell you that she will only need about 3-4 sessions but, it's like anything else......it will depend on the amount and strenght of the growth and could therefore prove an expensive treatment. I paid 40 per session but I believe it can be anything up to 100. The Irish Times had a laser hair removal gadget advertised last week for about 150euro but I think you would have to be very careful using it at home. I haven't used it and I'm not advocating using it but it might be worth checking out!

Hi there - don't know if you still getting laser treatment, but 110 euro is very expensive. I had been getting laster treatment done on my lip & chin and was costing 145 euro in Letterkenny. Priced it in Derry and am now getting same treatment for 60 Stg. Would be worth checking it out in N. Ireland - if you were living in Dublin you could maybe get it done in Newry?!!

Has anyone used those laser machines that are in Argos?

If it is just for one day she is worried about, she would probably be better off getting a wax.

Isn't it 70% or maybe even 80% off now in Therapie on Molesworth St in Dublin city centre. The ads are constantly on MTV, those eejits running on the beach flaunting their perfect, hairless bodies in my face.

Does it work? For 80% off I would definitely be interested

Hey I have been looking into LHR and found some posts on this website about Therapie and they were not good. I had an appointment booked and cancelled following reading them!!!

    Hi!
I went to the Laser Centre on Hume Street just near Stephen's green. It's 50e per session. I found it great, really nice and pleasant staff. I'd definitely recommend it! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭dancingqueen

I rang Heaven.. they are doing 80% off but underarms at 80% off would still work out at about 340 for 7 sessions (6+1 free)

I think this is quite dear :( although I don't know what to base it on. I'm dying to have it done. Everywhere! It'd make my life so much easier. Just because I'm lazy and hate my pasty dark haired legs, I'd be so much more confident! I would wear dresses and stuff more.

I've got a hairy back and hairy legs and shave twice a day. Quite sallow and swarthy!!
I had laser treatment earlier this year. It cost me €45 per session for 8 sessions.
I would recommend it. Much better than getting back waxed every 6 weeks.
I now can just wear shorts and t-shirts and not feel like a hairy arsed gorilla!!

Has anybody been to Therapie? They advertise 80% off on the website but give no prices. Seems too good to be true!

I have dark downy hair on top of my back which makes me very paranoid (won't wear anything that shows my back). I am very fair otherwise. Waxed it for my debs and broke out and it all grew back anyway.

Would love to get rid of it!

I agree. You'd maybe get treatment on your underarms for €45 a session - I think this person is trolling.

The Laser Centre on Hume Street are doing it for 60e per session. The woman said that a session lasts 20 minutes. However, the earliest available appointment after an initial consultation isn't until the end of July. Anyone have any feedback for the Laser Centre's hair removal treatment?

I would completely recommend FAB (Face and Body) off Grafton Street, 100%. I got a few places lasered there and dont have one hair on my bikini or underarm. They do 70% off so I think you can get two areas such as upper lip and underarm for around €350. Plus they are very good to the customers and give an extra session at the end to make sure they get most of it. Plus when I booked in for another area, she kept going on the areas I was finished with. So really I paid for 6 and ended up getting almost double that !

I'm a little suprirsed by the dislike of therapie, I go to them and I think they're absolutely terrific, really nice staff, not unpleasant at all, and so far the results I've got have been great.

    Folks

I have just deleted a number of posts from this thread, where we had an ex-member of staff from a certain salon pretending to be an unhappy customer. They also seem to have registered another account just to talk to and agree with themselves. I've sitebanned them, and also banned an account from a competing clinic nearby, also pretending to be an unhappy customer.

We don't condone this sort of muppetry - honest feedback is fine but when you're reading someone's negative (or positive!) review, check how many posts they have on Boards.ie, what they post about and whether they've posted positively about other experiences.

We welcome honest reviews but won't allow the site to be used to unfairly damage the reputation of a business. Our legal guidelines are here.

If you are a business being talked about on Boards.ie, just drop us a line - hello@boards.ie

    Thanks

Hi everyone, I do not recommend fab laser clinic, off grafton street. paid 1100euro for 3 areas, had 7 sessions according to their booking system (although I think I only had 5 or 6) and still have loads of hair....;((

It's true that laser hair removal is the best method in getting rid of undesired hairs on your body. Not permanent though but is quick and gives a remarkable result. There might be some difficulties but it's worth it in the end.
