My dell laptop of 6 years finally died on me last night so im on the market for a new one. I only really use it for college stuff (word, excel, access, etc), email, light gaming e.g. football manager, music, videos, etc. So I was out and about searching today I think Ive been drawn to these two:

    http://www.click.ie/product_info.php?cPath=9_37&products_id=5092&osCsid=b4557a9d7716a87a943fe1447ee82e67

    and

    http://www.aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/2867_5051.htm#top

I really like the look of the HP, seems a good spec for the price. But the Aldi one is cheaper and seems to have a decent spec too plus it has a 3 year warranty compared to the 1 HP offer.

The reason Im not gong for another Dell by the way is that I sort of need the laptop ASAP for college work and dont want to be waiting round weeks for delivery.

Any opinions you guys have would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: If I was buying I would get the HP directly from the shop and not the website. :)

I wouldn't touch the aldi machine to be honest, it's been discussed over here:Aldi
I would also recommend the vostro machines for sheer value for money, again discussed in that thread, just check them out on the business section of dell outlet. You'll pick up a cracking machine for under 700 that'll kick the hp and aldi machines asses.

Edit:Wow, sorry, i should have read the part about needing it asap...The hp could turn out to be quite a bit more expensive in the shops, and if your laptop is going to be a must have on a daily basis i wouldn't be so sure about the medion. Sorry man i'm not the best person to give advise on the retail market for laptops.

I ordered a Vostro 1000 with a pretty similar spec to that HP for just over €500. Was delivered in under 2 weeks. Had the faster AMD processor but the hard drive was half the size.

€350 less. Wouldn't touch the HP when you can get a Dell for that

Thanks for your advice lads. I went for the Aldi one in the end. :o I just thought for value for money with the extras e.g. Esata, HDMI etc plus the 3 year warranty it was perfect for my needs. But dont worry Im prepared for the "I told you so's" in the next few months if it doesnt work out! :)
