Guestimate on travel finances

Hey, just wondering how much money people think might be required to travel for 1 year in South and Central America. Don't intend on working and have no problems living fairly basically. Excluding pre-travel expenses (flights, vacinations etc.) what would be a rough estimate of the amount of money required?
Thanks in advance for any replies

central America is a overall an inexpensive place to travel in. Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua are probably the cheapest. you can easily manage on 15-20 euro a day here. of course if you travel from place to place frequently you will increase costs. espeically if you don't like chicken buses. and if you prefer staying in nice accommodation that will increase costs too. alcohol, food and most other day to day things are dirt cheap. El Salvador and Panama are a little bit more expensive. not by much so i'd budget an extra fiver or so a day. And by central America standards Belize, Costa Rica and Mexico are more expensive. You could manage on around 30 euro a day. Some days it will be less and some days it will be more. All depends what you do on the day. There are plenty of ways to spend a **** load if you want to.

South America can be done on 20 euro upwards a day. Maybe a little less in Bolivia and Colombia. Brazil and Chile are probably the most expensive places outside the Guyanas. But it's nowhere near as expensive as most of Europe. As mentioned before it all depends what you are doing each day. I find the longer you spend in a place the less you spend. Most of the money you spend on the road is when you are moving from place to place.

i think for a year in central and south America you would be comfortable with 8 grand spending money. Maybe even less. I've talked to people who survived on 6 grand for a year in south America but then again i've also talked to people who managed to blow over 12 grand. But they took in the Galapagos and stayed in nice hotels.
