Now why would the football manager leave the team when they are in pre-season? Doesn't make any sense whatseoever. They have no money and now will have to pay compensation to him, bring someone else in with a new coaching staff and hopefully get them used to the team. Very bad for Sligo Rovers. He did very well for them.

Apparently he was only being given enough money for three players and wanted an extra €1000 per week to get another few in but they refused. Nally walked out as well.

Any more info about what happened with Vincent Nally? Seems to be an awful lot of rumours out there.

Well with still no confirmation on the Rovers Website its up on the Everton site. Fair play to Coleman and I hope he makes it onto the first team. I would not be surprised if he gets the nod for Irelands first team before the end of the year.

Dunno, but Seamus Coleman has signed to Everton.. fair play - that's a big step from the Eircom League to the Premiership.

Not sure what other ones are planned at the minute. Dundalk should be an interesting one. An opportunity to give a nice warm welcome to a certain Mr Connor;)

Rovers have one of their most important seasons ahead of them and have the chance to make a good run at the league as well as the other tournament. hopefully it will all pan out.

    woo-hoo

    from the website
    Thursday, 12 February 2009
Paul Cook has spoken of his delight at returning as manager of Sligo Rovers, believing "it was never case of wanting to leave".
At a press conference in the Clarion Hotel Cook, chairman Michael Toolan and club secretary Mary McGowan outlined the details of the events that led to the Liverpudlian's return.

Money stemming from the sale of Seamus Coleman to Everton has allowed Cook to "hopefully add on or two players" to his squad. The money was originally budgeted for tax purposes but a restructuring of finance and the club's budget has altered circumstances at The Showgrounds.

Toolan and Cook offered huge thanks to all the supporters that have fundraised in the last two weeks to facilitate the return of the club's manager.

    More to follow.

There is something not right about this. He wanted extra funds for players wages and was told by the FAI that Sligo Rovers were already spending too much. Something very iffy if you ask me.

Let's hope they have a great season nonetheless.

just spoted this on the rovers website
Sligo Rovers are offering fans the ultimate European and supporter experience for the first round Europa League tie in July, through a unique draw.
You and a friend could travelling with the Sligo Rovers squad as they embark on a European odyssey. The prize includes all return travel, along with V.I.P. treatment for the home leg.

The dates for the games will be announced after the draw for the first round of the competition in June. Tickets for the draw are €5, or €20 for a book of five.

Tickets are available for Mark Cummins (0879293527) or Dermot Brannigan (0876172295). Alternatively, they are available in the office in The Showgrounds between 10am to 2pm.

The draw will take place on Gerry Farry's Final Whistle on Ocean FM on 8 May.

First home league game in shams new Tallaghtfornia stadium. I'm sure it's no coincidence either, seeing as Rovers played the last match in Glenmalure Park as well.

Final Score 1-1 , Just back from the game. A good turnout considering the weather. Hopefully they will all turn up for the next home game and wont have been put off by the fact that tonight wasnt a great game to watch.
RE: The Crowd- Thought the booing of faz was very unfair and the charging of a section of supporters towards opposition fans after the goal had the potential to cause trouble:(. Definitely feel that rovers deserved all three points on the night. The referee was absolutley awful:mad:. It was nice to see parkhouse get on the scoresheet on his debut. Thought ritchie ryan was excellent in midfield, man of the match imo.
