Let's say I'm from America and I'm going to some 18s gigs with my drivers license, which is real. Will they accept that? I heard a rumour that if you're foreign they only accept passports? I'm hardly going to want to bring my passport into a gig, especially if I'm travelling abroad.

It depends entirely on the club.

Would it smell dodge? I mean the ID is completely real, looks like me, height is completely identical, as is eye colour and any other detail.

How scabby are The Academy when it comes to gig ID?

They probably won't let you in if you look anyway underage. I'm in Australia and my Irish license counts for jack sh1t over here even though it's a proper state ID. I have to bring my passport everywhere I go.

The problem is that most bouncers won't have seen an ID like that before so will preumse it's fake and reject you.

Though as said, it will depend on the venue.

Damnit. Then how do visitors get in places? Like they're hardly going to bring their passport everywhere. A good bouncer should be familiar with ID's, goddamnit.

Photocopy your passport if you don't want to bring it out with you. It might help if you have that as well as the driving licence.

Haha, I'm 16 Ibid. I might use my bros passport, that'd make me 19, more believeable. But do they really accept photocopies though? I hear that they use to but they're pretty scabby about accepting them nowadays/

My mate has been in NYC and Georgia, most of the time he never even got asked for ID at nightclubs even though he looked his age (turned 21 last December but was 19/20 when he was in the US).

btw if the mods lock this they are showing just how uncool they have got in their twighlight approaching death years.

edit- oh wait, you nare a foreigner in Ireland?

I dunno, Id assume your average lad at the door would accept a cornflake box with writing and a photo if you look and act foreign. Part of my job is to review IDs faxed into us, and jesus some of the genuine African and Asian IDs are senior infant art class jobs. Dunno how the US lets these people in with their gov issuing such crap quality passports.

Heh, nah I'm Irish. Live here full time and all. I'd say confidence is the key, if I believe I'm the mate giving me the ID hopefully I will become him. Oh yeah, the license will have expired a bit ago when I use it. Reckon they'll still take it? It says UNDER 21 UNTIL 03/04/2008. April 20th is when I'll be going to one of the gigs, I could just say I'm travelling?

Yeah hopefully this won't be locked. It's not like I'm wondering how to set off a bomb.
Senior infant art class jobs. Lmfao.

Assuming you're going to a pub type place you could ring up the manager and explain the situation to him a day or two before hand?

That's a very good idea. Good point, think I'll do that.

The Academy is a large club and not a pub, might be hard to get through to the manager. Ive never been to the Academy as its only been around for a few weeks. It was previously known as Spirit...dont know if it was a change of management or just a change of name.

Ive been at Spirit many times and they are very strict. They ID pretty much everyone. Then again, if its been a management change things might be different. They are usually less harsh for gigs then just a regular club night.

Is the date backwards on it? My college ID had the date set up the American way. e.g. 9/11 = September 11th
Anyway, when I gave it to them they laughed at me saying that there was no 12th of the 13th (13th December - 12/13). So I didn't get in :(

I live in US. You're licence is very unlikely to work to be honest.
Passport should be ok but i've even had trouble with that. bouncers are even thicker than the irish ones.
