    Hi,

You might have heard of this guy. His name is VJ Rashmi. He always seems to have ads in the Irish Times.

    For info:

His game seems to be he comes to Dublin, operates out of a hotel function room (normally a nice enough one sometimes four seasons -this time it’s the Westbury on 28 February to 1st March).
You get measured up. They send the measurements back to Hong Kong. Suit gets made up and then final fitting happens around 6 weeks later when they visit Dublin again with your suit. Prices tend to be 220-450 and they claim suits are "just as good as Saville row etc"

Anyway has anyone ever gone to it? There seems a surprising lack of information on the internet about it. I would love to hear of anyone’s experiences about it. Obviously if they are actually good quality it could be a real find. Or they may just end up being suits that your never quite happy with and wish you paid top dollar in the first place.

I went to raja fashions in the four seasons a couple of weeks ago.

The minimum value they had was suit €750 but the papers advertised €400 and shirts were €60.

I knew exactly what suit I wanted, material, style, cut etc. it ended up costing me €1200.
The suit is the one I wanted and made to measure but the price is not great value and I haven't even seen the finished product yet.

The sales guy was crap and pushy, I had to be a little bit aggressive with him to get what I wanted.

    Got a discount for cash.

I will update here when I get the suit.

Hi There - My family has used The Rashmi Tailors in both Hong Kong and from Dublin for the last ten years - We have also found them to be very professional, great quality and the the price is always very competitive. They do what they say - NO ISSUES IN RECOMMENDING THEM.

VJ (Son of the founder) will be in Dublin next week (vijay@rashmi.com)

No I don't think there is a connection. I just got confused betweent he different ADs I had read.

If the suits end uo being really expensive then it might just be a waste of my time. I will probably pop along anyway -its not like I would have to make a purchase.
It seems pretty bad that they bump people up so much

My boyfriend got one of those tailor made suits and a couple of shirts when we were in Hong Kong a few months ago. I'm not sure of the guy's name, their shop in Hong Kong was Bespoke Tailors (there's a load of shops with similar names), but he got a letter to say they will be in Ireland soon. For around €500 he got one suit jacket, two pairs of trousers and two shirts, but the quality was terrible. He wore the suit once and he's only worn one of the shirts.

I'm not saying all of these tailors are no good, but if you are thinking of getting a suit made, go to one that has been recommended, like the one Eamonn Flynn suggested. Also, expect to pay a good bit more than the advertised prices unless you don't mind your suit being made from paper thin 1950's style fabric.

    i'm lost,
both are good? both are bad? one is good and the other is bad?

You are dreaming if you think you are going to get a great suit made for two hundred and fifty quid or anything like it. It's not going to be 'just as good as saville row'. It's just not.

I would say that 1200 could be good value if it is the suit you wanted and if the fit and quality is good.

    Got the suit today.

It came in a box the size of 2 A4 pages about 4 inches thick.

The suit is exactly what I wanted as I stated, colour style.

    Problems:
    1) The sleves are 2 long and baggy
But the jacket body is perfect, the pant are also great, pleated down the front but cut tight.

    2) It came in a box so now needs to pressed

    3) To get the sleves fixed I have to wait until mid April until they come back to Ireland and then 4-6 weeks from it to be posted out again.

    4) It dosen't feel/look as expensive as my Copeland suits and its nearly twice as expensive

    Positives:
    1) When the sleves are fixed, the cut will be perfect.

    2) I was able to pick out the exact material and style I wanted.

    Will I use them again:
    No, not worth the money

What is the construction like? Is there a floating canvas or is the canvas stuck to the fabric?

    floating

Went back on Sunday to get the suit fixed, he takes it post it to Hong Kong they do it post it back.

I did wear the suit around the house and the difference between it and my other suit is unreal. I look good in my off the rack suits (ie they fit me well) but when I moved around and even standing still in the new suit the difference is unbelieveable.
Wearing my old suits and I lift my hands above my head the suit looks baggy around the body, in the new one its still fitted.

So when I went back the prices had also dropped, started at 500(s*it) - 600 - 700, the 700 one is the same material as the 1200 one I bought, he said it wasn't but it was from the same swatch book.

At 700 the material is top quality and you have to buy a fitted suit to see the difference, so I'm a customer for life.

So if you do go they will try and charge you as much as you can the first time to set the bar for future purchases.
Pick the most expensive mid range they have, push hard say what suits you usually buy and at what price and you really like the expensive one he showed you but its too much compared to what you usually buy.

I 100% recommend this guy now at €700 per suit.

The 1200 I bought which are now 700 have a british flag on the cloth in the swatch book.

You also get a discount for cash and multiple suits, so bring a friend and you can bargain harder.

flatmate of mine in London used 'em (Raja) and recommended them saying that the suit was pricey but well worth it. I mentioned this in passing to my dad around then and, on foot of seeing an ad in the Phoenix magazine for them, he went along to the Four Seasons for a fitting.

At the end of the fitting, my dad mentioned my mates name, and got €100 knocked off the price and my mate got a thank you referral mail and, i think, £100 off his next purchase.

As for the suit my dad got, it was absolutely superb. He said he'd never had anything like it. He was an old geezer and wanted a few "customisations" like, i dunno, small front pockets, a button for old-skool braces to loop into etc, and the whole thing was done to his complete satisfaction. Considering that he was up to that point an 'off the rack' man this was high praise indeed.

It'll be pricey, but next time i'm getting a 'good' suit, i'll be dealing with Raja fashions.
