I have a what I thought was a strong enough chain for my scooter. Someone cut through it but seemed to have been disturbed and ran off before they could steal the scooter. I have been told that Abus chains are very strong and thiefs will not even try cutting them when they see it's an Abus chain. Is it true ??

If a thief wants something he will get it no matter what brand of lock, The better brands would take longer to cut than a cheaper brand. A cordless angle grinder or good bolt cutters will cut through most chains like butter. Thats why I would never lock my bike in an out of the way place like down a side street. There is so many surveillance CCTV cameras around the city its worth parking in view of them so that they could record any registration plates of vans etc that could be used in a theft.

    +1 on the almax.

The better your chain the longer/more hassle it is to steal for the thief which reduces the appeal of the bike. An alarm/immobiliser gives them even more hassle.

If someone really wants to steal your bike a chain isn't really going to stop them, but it will put of lads looking for something to joyride with.

Be aware that Dublin CC traffic cameras don't record their CCTV! Only the Garda cameras record.

Doesn't matter what chain you have unless it's locked TO something solid. Any bike is easy to lift into a van and it's gone.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I suppose bolt cutters can go thru anything. What I may do if I have to leave overnight, is lock it outside my local Guards station and the 15 minutes home, it's the only way I'll have peace of mind overnight.

Lol, sorry that made me chuckle! I wouldn't rely on them to fight their way out of a paper bag.

They are easy enough to spot, i.e they have a Garda Sticker on them! :)

Maybe not as obvious as this one.
