Valuation on a Lotus Elan+2?

    Hi,

My insurance is going to be up soon and I'll need to give an estimated value for the Elan.

It's a 1968 +2 with lots of history (23 years worth), replacement chassis, brilliant engine. Inside ok (tatty headlining but seats good, dash needs a re-veneering but everything works). Exterior average - some stone chips and bodged repairs, some crazing but as a fiberglass car no rust.

How much should I put on it for Insurance? If I get itchy feet again what do you think it should go up for sale at?

    All input appreciated!

I saw a yellow one in Rathmines today, wasn't yours was it?

When I was insuring my car, I just looked up the various adverts on the web and took an average...

Afraid not mine, unless someone nicked it and took it for a joyride!

Milod - there are very few Elans in the country and they are rarely sold. I could base a valuation of the UK price that I paid for it and similar cars advertised but that excludes all the transit costs, which is why I was hoping for a "local" valuation from the wise heads on here!

12k seems to be the upper limit on a +2, and a car a that price should be perfect.

    10k, maybe?

Really? I've seen good examples in the UK priced at up to £12k STG and very, very little (in any condition) below the £8,000 STG line.

A respray on mine has been quoted at €2500 and I paid €9,500 but if you think the upper limit is only €12K then no commercial value in getting it done (not the way to think I know but I tend to turn cars around every 6 months and I don't want to lose money on it).

    Thanks!
